Step AWAY From The Computer!

Yesterday, well more like the last 4-5 days, I have been putting in tons of time writing articles, tweaking sites, writing articles, checking stats (gotta stop that!), did I mention writing articles?

Sometimes you get so into what you are doing that everything around you, in a way, vanishes....just you and your computer....'tis the life!

Well, yesterday (as this whole true story started), I had enough....ugh....one more paragraph and I was gonna be done for. Short of throwing my laptop across the room (ya like that would ever happen), I decided I needed a break.

OMG! You have to try this....the "taking a break" thing....it did wonders for my sanity!! I think my laptop even gave a sigh of relief...

I took my 2 year old out to the park....she played on the swing sets, made sure that I played with her....i didn't know a body was supposed to bend this way at my age...yeow!

Keep in mind, I have only been doing this IM stuff for a short while, almost 4 months to the day....and of course I am not seeing a whole lot of success...yet. And that's okay....i am patience (keep saying that over and over in your head Dean) and know that the fruits of my labor will come to be....we all want that day to come sooner than later....

But I digress......

As I was out there....walking with my daughter, I thought...."so this is what it could be like once the ball was rolling along"....going to the park, when I wanted...doing my own thing....not being tied down to a 9-5 or a 7p-4a in my case. Ya ya I know, you are all saying that this whole IM thing takes a lot of work - hours and hours of work, days, weeks....etc. But to visualize that feeling of freedom was the best thing at that moment in time.

Not only was I glad my laptop was still intact, but I also sat down with a renewed energy!

The break was what I needed and decided from that point forward, breaks - with or without visualizations - were what I needed.

You should try it - the "taking a break" thing - I challenge you to step away from the keyboard - escape from it and get a chance to re-focus yourself and your energy.

I read a lot here (okay too much cause I'm addicted to the place) about the people that are getting frustrated - not seeing any progress....

If you still believe it is gonna happen over night, it ain't gonna happen...you have to persevere and keep focused. When you get to the point where the words all blend together into some kind of evil tag cloud, then get out of there as fast as you can - even just for a short time - and use that away time to re-energize and re-focus (any word after re-______ for that matter).

Your money making depends on it!

I dare ya - step away from the computer.
Dean

I've spent the last two or three weeks working at about 40% per cent capacity - I know I'm capable of more. As a result, I vowed that I'd step away from the computer and make the very most of my day off today. Guess what? I woke up more fired up than ever this morning and have achieved more today than every day in the last week put together.

Evidently I'm doing this all wrong, but since I'm on a roll I'll have the day off tomorrow. Time off is good for the sanity, and right now I'm a walking advert for it

I really need to start taking breaks ... if not for my sake for my laptops sake. I have it on so much that my fan can't handle it and it shuts itself off lol

I do! I think it's more of a "need a new laptop" issue - had it for quite a while now!

It took Hurricane Ike to remind me of how important it is to step away and just spend time with the family, sitting, playing, or doing nothing at all.

We left town for a week after the hurricane hit. Power was out all over and things were just nasty. We spent the week at a nice little resort in the Dallas area.

I played more basketball and volleyball with my kids in that week than I had in many many months. We had some amazing conversations and reconnected in some very powerful ways.

      Definitely puts things in perspective!

I think we're more productive, more focused, and more energized when we take time to recharge and unplug for a bit.

From a girl who's literally been putting in 20 hour days, 3 hours of sleep and child care somewhere in there, I've been a total zombie and I really saw my drive, focus and abilities wane quite quickly.

I too took a day off to recharge, get some rest, play with my kiddos outside, breathe some fresh air and soak in the sun. It was the best thing I ever did.

I was able to come back to my desk, make a list of priorities and not lose track of my goal by reading everyone else's stuff. That was happening to me a lot.

I had to break down and be a whiny girl down in another place on the forums, but thankfully they picked me back up and dusted me off.

I made a promise to myself that if I worked hard for 2 days, I got the third day free. It's working nicely and my family loves me for it.

      Best,

      ~D.
