I "wasted" $825 of time today on WF. How About You?

Warriors:

How many hours did you waste on WF today?

Opps, I mean "invest"

Because I've got to admit...

...WF is my addiction of choice.

It literal does effect my workday.

For example, today, while talking to clients, I couldn't help but wonder...

"Why on Earth am I working on a Sunday? Boy, I wish my passive income was so huge I didn't have to work 60-70 hours a week".

So in-between clients, I head over to the forum and indulge myself in the fantasy of making "millions of dollars while drinking coronas while on the beach".

I am a tax accountant by trade. Clients actually pay me around $350 a hour. And guess what....

My greed glands aren't happy. It's not enough.

I literally have over $10,000 of PREPAID work piled on my desk.

And what do I do...

...I head to WF.

My detour from my reality.

Today I spent 2.5 hours, or about $825 buck-a-roos wading through posts.

And I know its 2.5 hours because I have one of those programs that track how you spend every second so you can bill your client accordingly.

$825 wasted? $825 invested?

Guess its a glass half full half empty kinda of a question.

But how many of us lurk on the WF? Wading through posts? Dreaming of making it big while doing NOTHING? Of sending out to an email list of 100,000, and then going to our paypal account with $43,343 worth of new ebook sales?

So...

...How much time did you "invest" today on the Warrior Forum?

For me to waste $825 on this forum with my current salary I would have to spend about 55 hours on here.

I guess the answer to the question whether or not the time is wasted or invested depends upon what did you DO with the information and knowledge that you gained in your 2.5 hours.

The value of a $1 a day 5 year annuity (using a 10% discount rate) is $1,372.20. Therefore if it takes 1 hour to put in place something that will earn me $1 a day return for the next 5 years, then I have earned $1,372.20 for that hour's work.

If by acting upon the advice and knowledge you gleaned from your 2.5 hour visit, you create a revenue generating asset worth more than $825 + the cost of the time to create said asset, then it is time invested. If you were simply gathering knowledge that is unlikely to ever be used, then it's time wasted.

Many of the books/blog posts/articles from magazines preach that we should calculate our hourly earnings and act accordingly. For example if you earn $100 per hour, you should oursource tasks which can be done at $20 per hour. To some extent it helps. But we cannot stick to it. I have another perspective:

What you earn in business has more to do with the hours you put in working. I get most of my ideas during swimming, shower or while playing something. That's where I do business - in my mind. Execution takes a few hours. My subconcious mind is churning out ideas and concepts 24/7.

And from another perspective... we have only 2-3 hours of highly productive time per day... rest of the hours diminish in its earning potential as the evening sets in.

    It's just me.

dude, its ok. I have on my gmail calendar "45 min in warrior forum" I do this every day. SO i come here and read then go and apply it. Thats the real secret and power of this forum.

Too many people come here and just sit and read all day and dont get off there u know what and start testing the stuff here.

SO my only other question now is, why are you back to work?? Action gives results, not dreaming about doing it later.

@ Jay F: Yes, it is about focus. Those that focus...win.

Tiger, at least before TailGate, was a master of focus. I think the issue is magnified in the world of IM because those of us who are attracted tend to be ADD types.

      What's my statera?

@celente: LOL. I love you budgeted 45 mintues in your gmail. Yep, action is where its at.

@Deepak Media: Outsource tasks below your payrate is very attractive. However, there is a lot of danger in outsourcing.

      1) You got to find the right person. And usually you do don't get that on the first try. When I bit a project out, I usually hire THREE (3) different people for the same task because one person usually messes up. Another is late. And one is actually good.

      2) The time required to find that "right" person is a lot.

I do agree with the idea of outscourcing in concept. However, in practice, its not the magic spell that cures as advertised. I'd add you have to take into account the BS/Time/$$$ of finding the right person.

@Marhelper & new guy: Amen!!! Focus. Focus. Focus.

@Nick M: Love your comment! Especially the discount rate!!! The accountant in me is smiling

Although, I think part of the addiction of visiting the WF is the fantasy. The idea I can make $$$ 24/7/365.

      Reality is far different.

There are NO 4-Hour-Work-Weeks for the top 1%.

Those that succeed put in their 10,000 hours. Of course they play hard too

I would go as far to say that if you aren't willing to put at least 1,000 hours of study, 2,000 hours of action and about $10,000 into doing so, you probably aren't going to have long term success.

It's all about CPA and lifetime customer value.

      Still, I dream. Or, wish.

That is the attraction to the "newbie". The promise of riches. The "easy" money.

I'm smart enough to know that dream is an illusion.

      Yet, I want to believe.

LIke there is a lotto for IMers. That if you somehow push the right buttons, cash comes out.

Oh well. Time to wake up!!!

@Jessica Martinez: Congrats on your new addiction!

@mysterrio: Be careful. Soon you'll a sleep deprived IMer

@TheRichJerksNet: That seems like a true investment in your business. Well done. Congrats!!!!

As she slams the door in his drunken face
      And now he stands outside
And all the neighbors start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

And so castles made of sand fall in the sea, eventually

A little Indian brave who before he was ten,
Played war games in the woods with his Indian friends
And he built up a dream that when he grew up
He would be a fearless warrior Indian Cheif
Many moons past and more the dream grew strong until
Tomorrow he would sing his first war song and fight his first battle
But something went wrong, surprise attack killed him in his sleep that night

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually

There was a young girl, who's heart was a frown
Cause she was crippled for life,
And she couldn't speak a sound
And she wished and prayed she could stop living,
      So she decided to die
She drew her wheelchair to the edge of the shore
And to her legs she smiled you wont hurt me no more

Look a golden winged ship is passing my way

And it really didn't have to stop, it just kept on going...

And so castles made of sand slips into the sea, eventually

Glad you liked it - the Accountant and CFA in me was what kept me from dropping a $400k a year job for over 5 years.

However, I found that the day job was my worst enemy because it sucked all my time and energy and the only asset that it ever gave me was a paragraph on my CV.

Once I made the decision to ditch my job, the rest was easy. I had the time I needed to focus and with the comfort and security of a regular paycheck gone, I found the drive and motivation to do what I knew needed to be done.

I now have two criteria with which I judge how successful I have been each day.

        1. Did I create something of value?
        2. Did I capture this value in such a way that it can be reused?

Once I've met these criteria, I can comfortably reward myself with some leisurely forum surfing.

      Ahh....

...Because its not about the money!!!

      It is about the dream.

The idea/concept/dream of passive/automated income streams.

When you get paid per hour your worth is in your ability to produce in a given time fame.

And should I get hit by a car?

This is a very real concern of most professionals. And for that matter, EVERYBODY.

The reason to include an hourly rate is meant to emphasis that fact that it doesn't matter what your hourly rate is. It could be $10, $100, or even $1,000 per hour.

The reality is that wealth is created from passive activities. The job (the hourly rate) and your business (the passive income portion) are two different beasts.

The trick is increasing your passive income in a grounded manner that isn't a dream model.

That is my personal issue that I struggle with. I want that passive income. I want it quickly and easily.

And yet I know the truth of the matter: things take time. they take love. they take money. they take effort.

So why I am interested in IM?

The because of the automated 24/7/365 element. That is very attractive.

You can sell that. That has value.

I hope that answers your question

        copyassassin,

IM is about the dream...the idea/concept/dream of passive/automated income...

AND there are a few who have achieved it in IM.

I'd just like to shed some light on something OTHER than IM (although, today, the Internet plays a part so, it could be considered a form of Internet Marketing)...

My friend Harvey Brody WAS hit by a car on a S.CA expressway. Thanks to his "tank" Mercedes, he walked away with just scrapes and bruises...BUT, it could have been devastating.

Everyday, doctors get sick and can't work, and same for all professionals who may haul in some huge numbers, but are totaly reliant upon 'WORKING', and when they stop, the income stops too.

So, anyhow, Harvey Brody has been collecting PASSIVE income, 24/7/365 for over 50 years by OWNING and CONTROLLING a product (he actually owns several, but ONE will suffice for example).

His Zoom Spout Oiler has sales of close to 70 MILLION units the last 50 years and since Harvey "owns" and more importantly "controls" the product, he's been paid millions of dollars for his so-called toll position.

Today, at a robust 77 years young, Harvey continues to collect his Passive Income but accelerates things via the Internet.

I've recently discovered a Missouri man who has been paid close to 10 million dollars (maybe more) for simply having "control" of a great selling product. He simply "owns" the piece of paper, the marketing agreement.

He does not touch the product in any way, has ZERO out of pocket expenses but is simply paid for each unit sold under his "control" or as Harvey Brody would say, his TOLL POSITION agreement.

In the real world there are scores of ways to obtain control and a TOLL, and as an accountant, you would have access to some of these people (perhaps) during your WORK hours.

Passive Income in the world of LICENSING and "distribution" agreements can give you a decades long income and you'd never even have to touch a computer...other than to check your bank account.

And, IMO, many of the so-called passive IM fortunes have been made selling the DREAM to other people. Just like in the old world of mail order, etc.

        gjabiz

Warrior Forum is a POWERFUL weapon if you use it to mine the gold out of it and build relationships.

If you use it to jibber-jabber, then you're burning money... not making progress, but it's fun.

It's a nice release when you've been pulling your hair out all day because of a stupid technical problem haha...

And like I pretty much said... I've met 95% of the people I take on biz projects with from this forum at one point or another.

There's a lot of value in info and friendships, just not very fun when someone takes a random shot at you That's why I mainly just talk to my good pals on Skype.

Now there's a way to use Warrior Forum... Meet them on the forum > connect on Skype > build relationship > share insights > maybe make a deal.

@gjabiz: Thank YOU! so much for a great reply. I'd love to get in touch with you. Your post got my brain all fired up.

I currently have about 50-65 businesses I do the accounting and tax work for. I see, talk, laugh, & play with them every month. And some of these businesses gross 2m+, so I bet their is room to assist them.

A personal goal in being in the IM space is to learn principles that work in this space, and transplant them to my clients.

A lot of small business owners don't pay for get consulting because they feel its a waste of their money. However, if I could come up with a solid value proposition that wouldn't require a lot of out of pocket expense, then just maybe I've found "pay dirt"!

@Maverick_: Love your reply. If only, right?

@JasonParker: Your post also got my brain fired up. Is there a WSO for effectively building relationships in Planet Warrior Forum?

He said his income increased 4X, not his hourly rate.

How do you reckon to make $150 a post I have been tracking the traffic from my signature links and have worked out I am making maybe $5 dollars a day from the sales it generates
This might be part of the problem:

    http://bit.ly/1BNqyd3

STOP - there might be a problem with the requested link
The link you requested has been identified by bitly as being potentially problematic. This could be because a bitly user has reported a problem, a black-list service reported a problem, because the link has been shortened more than once, or because we have detected potentially malicious content. This may be a problem because:
Some URL-shorteners re-use their links, so bitly can't guarantee the validity of this link.
Some URL-shorteners allow their links to be edited, so bitly can't tell where this link will lead you.
Spam and malware is very often propagated by exploiting these loopholes, neither of which bitly allows for.
The link you requested may contain inappropriate content, or even spam or malicious code that could be downloaded to your computer without your consent, or may be a forgery or imitation of another website, designed to trick users into sharing personal or financial information.
    bitly suggests that you
Change the original link, and re-shorten with bitly
    Close your browser window
Notify the sender of the URL
Or, continue at your own risk to
Why do people still use bit.ly??

The forum has always been great for me. I come not so often, but it's always good.

--The times I needed cash, I got it fast in the for hire forum.
--The times I needed ideas to complete a project, the answers always came.
      --I met amazing people here.

Last week I got an email from the newsletter talking about a WOS for a particular niche, right after I got another email from Tiff in the same niche. It's close to mine.

I got to work, have my lil book already done.

Now I'm lurking again for a short while fishing for new traffic techniques, and sensing the pulse.

Don't know - but that particular one was posted 5 years ago.

Why would anyone bump his own 5 year old thread? Don't enough newbies bump them now as it is?

Interesting question, although I do not consider this wasting my time. Everyday morning I come here and look for good articles or suggestions and then find some good questions which I can help with and try to payback that way. Around 25 minutes everyday, so it must add up to 20$ or so.

My biggest challenge with WF is finding posts worth reading. Lots of gibberish in here, which is why I usually only visit 1/month. That allows enough time for relevant posts to accumulate that it's worth investing a couple hours of my time.

It's difficult to quantify how much I earn directly from being on the WF, because many of my posts tend to go viral from here. The amount of publicity, exposure, quotations, and traffic resulting from the huge popularity of this forum is incalculable. Most certainly for me, it never has been a waste of time.

Don't get me wrong, I've spent (wasted) my fair share of time on the WF and I didn't get much out of it in the long run..

Sure, you pick up a few golden nuggets here and there and you can a few people get past some major obstacles and that's great.. But what this internet lifestyle is all about is...

    MAKING MONEY..

If you're dreaming of drinking Corona's on the beach the only way to get there is take action toward that dream.

It's funny that you say "while doing nothing" because anytime I see those gurus.. The guys making 7 and 8 figures every single year online they ALWAYS seem super busy..

    • Running webinars
    • Sending emails
    • Creating products
    • Testing conversions
    • Networking
    • Doing live events
    • Etc..
If you don't mind spending the rest of your life sitting on the warriorforum, dreaming of the internet marketing lifestyle that you've always wanted, wasting thousands of accounting gigs.. Keep doing what you're doing.

Those of you that are serious about getting results and making thousands per day... Buckle down and take daily action toward your goal..

Hope you get past this little obstacle,

It's really important to note that those 7-8 figures are gross numbers.

Top Line Revenue. NOT net profit.

Most of those guys have HUGE refund rates and HUGE affiliate pay-outs.

As a general rule, those guy promote the "office at the beach" lifestyle, yet, work 80+ hours a week.

WF can be addictive. It is better to set aside a fixed amount of time each day to browse the forum and make posts. Going a little beyond the fixed time is alright but not too much. Otherwise people could just spend hours and hours and fool themselves into thinking that they are learning something while the truth is all this knowledge is of no use unless you implement it and take consistent action.

      usually I don't.

however, I think it's important for newer members to see people who started something a while ago, in this case I posted in 2010, still in the game, having success, and that the warrior forum has a lot to offer.

It's very easy to have success for a year here or a year there.

Anybody can achieve "success" for a moment.

I've seen so many people come and go.

But to maintain and still want to continue growing, that is inspiring to me and I hope it inspires others.

Interesting post. It's kind of funny that even though you are making great money from working, you are still focused on using internet marketing as a way to make passive income. It's cool that you have been able to make a website for your company and incorporate it into what you work for on a daily basis though. Just use Facebook to build it up. If you're already making great money from working, why not just buy an established domain name that is already getting a ton of traffic and making money every month from www.flippa.com/ ? Sounds like you already have a full schedule but this could work too .

IMHO... DEPENDS on how you use your time here in WF. If you're reading a topic that has nothing to do with your current business then you're not investing but wasting a lot of time. If you're helping others specially newbies as an online philanthropist guru then you're investing for good causes but still a waste of time as far as your business is concerned. The only time that time is well invested is when you're dealing with something that can take yourself and your business to a higher level.
