When warriors go head to head

I'm up against a warrior for a key search term and he's starting to sweat.

I have to say it's enjoyable watching him churn out his low value drivel as he tries in vain to save his #1 rank.

This could be you, what are you gonna do about this relentless march to steal your #1 rank?

Easy: Buy more textlinks. All a question of money and resources, nothing else.

The questions is, is it all worth the hassle?

... alternative: Send the knockaround guys

This isnt personal this is business and it is most definitely worth the hassle. The train is a full run-away now, it is already generating the money required to take the site to the top.

I have many keywords in my money niche I rank #1 for. The site's been up for over twelve years.

I see people do all the backlinking, blogging, etc, for new sites that target those keyword/phrases and every now and then one of them will bump me to #2 when they come out of nowhere and grab the #1 spot.

        What do I do?

        Nothing.

Within weeks, those sites are nowhere to be found.

You can fool Google for a while, but it's a lot harder to fool folks that are searching for what you have.

One of the keys to sticking around the serps is to actually give folks the information/products/entertainment, etc that they are searching for.

Spending a boatload of time and energy trying to trick Google into awarding you a top ranking means nothing in the long run if the visitor hits the back button and returns to the serp to continue their search.

The search engines put a lot of weight on that back button and they record those 'votes'.

They will quickly spot the pretenders, so hanging on to the top spot when there are real websites that deliver what the searchers are looking for is a short term practice in many cases.

Quality, judged by the public, still outweighs all the tricks in the long run. You may be a hero for a short time, but in the end you will have just wasted your energy if all you spend it on is 'ranking' instead of 'providing'.

Bum Rushing the rankings this is not. This has been 6 months in the making.

Tricking? You'll be saying marketing is wrong next

My sites hold more value than the top site which is one of the reasons my assault will be of benefit to people.

Yes tricking... When you create the backlinks your self, you are tricking google. It is like voting for your self in an election.

So creating multiple sites about related subjects is tricking the search engines is it?

              Interesting concept.

Your motive is to get link juice, thus voting for your self, it is tricking...

Yeah man, stay away from this evil trick, its bad m'kay. Just cos it makes money and works really well doesn't mean you should use it! I like to spin around 3 times in a circle, cross my fingers and say "please be #1" 3 times. It works, give it a try.

Great thing about SEO (and why I love it so much) is that you can always topple the giant at #1. Usually when someone gets there and stays there for a while they take the foot of the pedal and allow you to catch up with them. As I told you before, I worked 12 months with a team of link builders to get a keyword before and it was definately worth it.

In my opinion the only way to protect your rankings against other people encroaching is to have some really good link bait on your site. That way after your initial push for links you get a steady stream of natural links with no extra effort, other than to keep the link bait fresh and useful. Free tools are usually the way to go here, just code up something useful.

Who cares if it's another warrior in there? That's a better challenge, maybe, but heck, if it's not you, it'd be someone else.

Just put it this way: if you aren't making the money, someone else is! So either way, if someone isn't willing to do everything it takes to make the money somewhere, there will always be another person willing to do all that it takes because they see that potential.

That's natural. There will always only ever be ONE #1 as well. Only ONE. Not two...unless of course you are ranking for more than one keyword on the search engines, and are taking up virtually most of the spaces, then of course there is a #1, 2, 3, 4 etc etc etc ...lol

Finding it was another Warrior was interesting because I pretty much knew what he was doing purely from that one small piece of information.

I take my hat off to him though, getting to #1 in this market was no mean feat. It will be a pleasure beating him.

I'm glad you have a great "go getter" attitude! Just be careful, he or she could come back and beat you out later on if you aren't careful! Happens all the time.

He could indeed. The problem he has is I have 7 sites on page 2 right now all heading north.

I made the mistake many years ago of depending on SE rankings for one particular site I had. Then Google changed things and I lost the #1 ranking for that site for a good word.

Never again would I worry about whether I had #1 for one word or not. And never again would I worry about what would happen if I lost the income from one traffic source or site.

Point is, if it was me, I wouldn't worry if someone was relentlessly marching to steal my rank. Cause I have other words, other traffic sources, other products and other sites. Losing one word really wouldn't be a big deal, so I wouldn't sweat about it. I probably wouldn't even notice.

    Cheers,
    Becky

SEO burnout. I'm so there. By the end of this year, I plan to be well on the path to divesting my business of the need to worry about search engine rankings. Not all of it, of course, but my reliance is at an unhealthy level at this point and that's a weakness.

We give Google too much power. This is why building a list and developing relationships with customers so they become loyal repeat customers is critical. We're all of us one major (or even minor in many cases) Google tweak away from disaster if we depend too much on Google for traffic.

I would be checking what you are doing, and do it better. I'm number 1, and have history behind me. I still have the upper hand, and since I'm monitoring my rankings I know you are on the way up.

Good Luck, let the best man win.

Thegamecat, if you're not using BH methods in your quest for the top position beware.

There are some smart dudes who use unknown (i.e not talked about in public spaces) methods that include BH who will eat you alive. In fact there are some people who you might be competing with that would see your gloating as added incentive to crush you with absolute fury.

Many people who are outside the US don't give a rats ass about really BH methods and will use whatever method they deem necessary to destroy you so completely, that rovers will be visiting your domains in a similar way that rovers would visit an area decimated by a hydrogen bomb.

I hope for your sake you are not up against these particular people. If you are, your gloating will be most assuredly short lived.
