Any good training for the Lifestyle Wordpress theme?

Hi everyone... I bought the Lifestyle WP theme a few months ago and have never used it. I see people on here and other places creating these amazing themes for their sites, but I cannot seem to get it to work for me that way. For one, I do not own Photoshop and I think that to create any headers I may need that. Of course, I can hire out to have headers done since I have no clue how to work Photoshop either. Do I really need to learn Photoshop?

I saw some tutorials on Youtube for Lifestyle, but they were kind of short and not overly helpful. I've read the forums at Studiopress, but they seem overly technical. Does anyone know of a good video course that shows a person from start to finish how to use on of those kinds of themes?

I only want to know for my personal use, not to sell sites since I own a personal license only.

I love the lifestyle theme! But if you are going to want to customize it, then you will need to get a photo editing program (doesn't have to be photoshop, you can use gimp for free like I do) and dig into some of the technical aspects of the code.

I use a really old version of it that I have customized so that I can go in and change the colors quickly and replace the header. Plus I move stuff around on the homepage which involves digging into the html.

But if you just want a different header and to change the colors all you really need to do is create the header and then go into the style.css file and edit the colors on the different elements.

At first it can be challenging, but once you do it a few times it will be as easy as buttering toast!

Anyway, I don't have any videos that show how to customize it, but I do have one I made for my PLR website buyers that show how to change the text in the headers that I supply. It might help you a bit on using gimp:

Please keep in mind that I am no graphics wiz and keep the laughing to a minimum please!

    Hey, Lee,

I just happened to stumble across this post while looking for something else. I am very exited to see how to change that header text in GIMP! I had bought some sites before but hadn't ever been able to figure out how to do that, I had someone else do it for me.

    Thank you!

Your welcome! I'm glad someone is getting use out of the video! It took me quite a while to actually figure out how to do that myself!

If you DO understand how Themes work in WordPress, but don't know code (I don't), you might look into Artisteer.

Artisteer - joomla template generator and wordpress theme generator

The Home version allows you to design WP and HTML, but more importantly, the Home version DOES permit you to SELL your themes OR use them on clients sites.

I would have to rate it as one of my top internet business purchases...

It offers some options if you want to avoid designing header graphics, as well. ;-)

If you can design your own headers, then I'd say that the sky is the limit! LOLOL

Lately, I have been finding it extremely powerful as I have been experimenting with changing layouts for some of my sites... looking for more effective presentation on a site by site basis. I can change the site layout, (but keep the theme design) and upload and activate the new version in just 5 or 10 minutes!

For instance, I created a version of the theme that Jimmy D Brown has been selling recently. Is it the same? No... but it is pretty darn close AND I didn't have to sacrifice my current Theme just to change the layout. ;-)

        Hi, Tink

I was very seriously looking into Artisteer at one point, but then was sort of cautioned away by several web designers here on the Warrior Forum. Something to do with the code being not so good. Some of them recommended using Artisteer to get a visual of what you want your theme to look like, and then having a coder create if for you.

Hi - I had heard that also...

There is a thread on the Artisteeer forum discussing it as it relates to SEO:

          Artisteer Web Designer Forums

Anyway, after weighing the pros and cons, I decided to go with Artisteer.

Like everything business related, we each need to make the decision that works best for us. ;-)

At this point, for me, Artisteer is a good thing.

          Thanks,

The support forums at StudioPress are pretty detailed, even for the non-techy folks. I can always find or get an answer there whenever I need it. You may have to get used to their forum setup 1st though, but once you do, it's all there.

Once you get a feel for their coding, that theme is very easy to customize.

I use that theme a lot and know almost all the ins and outs of it. They just released the new "Genesis" version of that theme which I have yet to use. You probably have the non-Genesis version.

I haven't created any videos on how to use it, but I can answer any questions for you if you want to send them my way.

Hmm.. I may have to consider it again. I am kind of getting started into flipping websites, and it would sure come in handy.
