New Domain and the "Sandbox"..

I'm planning on opening a new eCommerce store sometime in the near future,
but for now I beraly started creating my site.

I've been through "Stomping the Search Engine" series and they
say that I should buy domain name as early as possible so I can start
"generating age" for my new eCommerce store..

My question(s) is.. Is "Sandbox" still around? cause STSE(1) is pretty old
so I dunno if I'm up to date. If yes then appox how much time(that's if) I need
to w8 for my site to get out of the Sandbox if it ever gets into it.

And to index my site so it will actually be developing age by Google's
standards I recall they said in STSE that I need to create a few pages and get
a few relevant backlinks to my site so Google will make a note of it(index),
start generating age for it, and from the backlink ancor text(and the site's
onpage) it will determine my site's reputation(category)..

But to what extent should I make these 1st "just to get indexed" actions?
Cause I like to ponder alot about my design, so I wanna do it quick
just so I get my site's age timer up and running and later I'll go full force
with my SEO on the site.

Aww, and if the "Sandbox" is still around and there is(?) a way to
not even get trapped into it, can you please tell me the things that I can do
to reduce my chances of getting trapped?

Thanks,
tony xD

I guess no one really knows, but I think it is because one of my sites is in it. It was doing fine for SE traffic the first month. Than it went to nothing one day. All my pages are indexed, but I just get like 20 hits from google a month.

I'm hoping I'll be out of there before 2009 lol *fingers crossed*

One trick that may help you surpass the sandbox some is to register your domain for 5 years (or as long as possible) instead of the standard 1 year- google is registered with ICANN and it is believed that they do factor in the whois information of domains when ranking pages.

The idea is that even though your domain is new, you obviously have some intended long term purpose for it instead of making a "throw away" for some blackhat or spamming attempts that is just going to get blocked by google in a few weeks anyway

Buy a preowned domain off of a site like freshdrop.net with some age and you won't have to worry about the sandbox.

I would get some content up and links to it as soon as possible, as you mentioned, so you know G has seen it and notes the date. Then when your ready, traffic should flow much faster.

Well thanks for answers all xD

I was about to register my domain for 3 years upfront as I heard that google
gives thumbs up for it SEO-wize, but now you say 5 years?!, Ain't 3 years is enough?

Aww, and I was also thinking of putting up the basic layout of homepage/contact us/about us and a Blog and write a few articles there for the "enitial
content".. is it a good idea???

Sandbox is a main point of discussion amongst SEO's.

New websites rank high then dissapear usually adding fuel to the sandbox debate.

Personally I have optimised sites that hit the "sandbox" and ones that didn't.

Many (including myself) believe it to be a link filter. It is to stop someone registering a domain, creating loads of spammy links and then hitting a high ranking in the search engine.

The way I have found to avoid it is to get quality links from authority sites in the same category and not do a reciprocal link exchange. If the main body of links come from non authority low ranked sites then google wants to know that these links will still be there in 6 months so discounts these links for a period of time. It's a theory but it fits with research I have done.

    Avoid reciprecal link exchange??
Bummer.. I was kinda hoping on doing it alot, but I guess I can avoid it as long
as it is just for starters(right?). How much time will I need to avoid 2-way link
    exchanges??

And I don't think I got you right.. yah saying that I should also avoid low ranked(low PR)
    backlinks??

Most of the new sites are prone to get trapped in sandbox. They will please you being on good rankings sooner than expected and then disappear. If you're doing a quality seo and backing up your site with quality backlinking, there are least chances of falling it in sandbox.

For example.. If you enter a keyword term - copywriting company - in Google.com, you'll find my business site www.econtentaxis.com among top 5.. Well, it is NOT sandboxed and carries a strong backlinking and seo..

But with the same keyword, you'll find www.contentaxis.net somewhere on 7-10th position. It IS actually sandboxed. It carries no link building, no marketing and just nothing. It is in SERPs for few days and will disappear.

Getting your site out of sandbox is not a difficult job. I hope this article may help you
