Cannot create a sitemap with XML Sitemap Generator for WordPress 3.2.2

Ok, I have spent the last 2 days trying to get this thing to work. I have the following:
  • There was a problem writing your sitemap file. Make sure the file exists and is writable. Learn more
  • There was a problem writing your zipped sitemap file. Make sure the file exists and is writable. Learn more
  • The building process took about 0 seconds to complete and used 13.5 MB of memory.
  • If you changed something on your server or blog, you should rebuild the sitemap manually.
  • If you encounter any problems with the build process you can use the debug function to get more information.
This is what I have done so far:

  1. Uninstalled and re-installed the WP plugin
  2. created the sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz files
  3. Uploaded to Public_html
  4. Ran the rebuild sitemap
  5. Rinse and repeat of the above errors.
What the H*** am I doing wrong? I'm really frustrated at this point. Any help would surely be appreciated in advance and thank you very much.

If my memory serves me correctly there are several site map generator plugins available for wordpress. You might just want to try a different sitemap generator plugin.
" There was a problem writing your sitemap file. Make sure the file exists and is writable. Learn more "
Locate the sitemap files you generated and select one by clicking once on it. Then look at your options menu and you should see a button that says, 'edit or change file permissions'.
Use this option to change the file permissions to writable. "755" means set file permissions to:read-write-execute.
    Hope this helps...

Thank you for the suggestions. Unfortunately, this did not work either. Trust me..........I have spent hours looking through forum posts for solutions and still not much help. The only thing I can think of they may fix this is pointing the path directly.....
      www.mysite.com/public_html/sitemap.xml
One thing though, I am not sure the above path is "exactly" correct?
I have rebuilt the site multiple times after changing every word individually....adding www, removing www, adding http, removing http, adding both, removing both.....
As you can see I still seem to have issues.
Along with re-installing and uninstalling the plug in multiple times with no change.
I am about to just take the plug in out and have the dag'gone thing created manually and put the sitemap in and then have google try to find it..
SHeesh you would think it does not need to be that hard.

Nope that path is not correct. public_html would be mysite.com/sitemap.xml. Do you have wordpress installed in a sub directory like mysite.com/blog?

Are you using the Google XML Sitemaps plugin?

I use Google Simple Sitemaps plug in. I used to use Google XML Sitemaps, but started having problems with it. Try this one: WordPress › Simple Google Sitemap WordPress Plugins

I second on you. I use WordPress › Simple Google Sitemap WordPress Plugins as well and it worked well on my end although I'm on 2.9.2

I had the same problem.. Frankly speaking I couldn't fix it ...
All I can advice to stick with Sitemap Writer Pro. It it a shareware program, but I guess this is the most optimal solution, taking into consideration that the number of pages of your wordpress website will expand in the course of time. You can create video Google News, Google Video/Images sitemaps as well. Also good news for you - I've a coupon code that is still active: SWP51OFFDOD
