Hi everyone! This is my first post but I've been lurking for months so I'd like to say "thanks" for all the great information I've already read from everyone.

My question is: I'm about to offer my first ebook for sale. It's a resume writing course and I want to publish it in PDF format. However, I also want to include sample resumes at the end and I want the buyer to be able to use them as templates so I really need them to be in Word.

Will it be too confusing to send the book as a PDF and the add on as a .doc?

Any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks, rose

    Hello Rose,

Congratulations for launching your own product. I suggest you offer the extras as a zip file as this will be easier to download for your buyers. I understand you need Word for template files which is fine but I wouldn't provide these as straight downloads.

If you package all your files into the one folder and then zip if up by right clicking it (I assume you've got Windows) you should see an option to zip it.

Are you uploading this to a digitally protected site/folder? Or will you send them out directly after people buy?

    Hope this helps

I do not see any problem with the ebook as a PDF and the templates as a word file. Some people may not have word (open office for example) so you may want to create various versions of the file but how far do you go ? I would suggest creating PDF's for all your files and adding the word templates as well. Use the recommendations above to make one zip file.

Clickbank has a 50 dollar charge to list your first product.

If you go with clickbank, then there is a site called cbengine which allows marketers to see newly listed products and sales. On this site you will gt an idea of just how many products are launched all the time. If I was looking at this list then I would be more inclined to promote products that are showing they are converting. Right ?
So the most important point to a successful start is to get a sale or two in the first few days. How you do that is up to you and what you fell comfortable with. Nothing wrong with a little self promo to get the ball rolling :+)

    Hope this helps

    Hi Rose

Congrats on completing your first ebook! As above, Zip file would be best.

Consider whether you want to offer an affiliate program for your product so as to make more sales. You can, of course do that by putting your product on Clickbank Marketplace.

Also, (because it will help you) you may want to look at my sig.

    regards

Keep in mind that ClickBank does not make your product available for download. They simply act as the "bank", where people pay for the product. ClickBank then sends you your payment after it deducts its fees.

You still need to figure out how you will provide the download. If it weren't for the stringent spam filters, you could just add it to an email (through an auto responder, preferably). But if people are using one of the free email accounts, they might not be able to get the zip file attachment.

You have to put your product zip file onto your server so that you can send people to a specific link to download it. I usually just create a download page and put the link on it. So if you put the zip file into a folder on your server, the link might look like this:

      http://www.yoursite.com/downloads/myproduct.zip

When the person clicks that link on your download page, the Save window will open and they can go from there.

Since you will want to protect your download, there are a couple of options available.

You can put a security password on the download folder which you then give to the buyer after payment so they can get the download. You do that in your Control Panel.

Another option is to go with one of the online download services - sorry I don't know of one off the top of my head, but I've seen others use them. There is a fee for those. Perhaps someone can give you a link to one.

Or maybe if you run a search for something like, "download service" you might find one that suits your needs.
