Have You Locked Up Your Domains With .asia, .cn, .eu, etc. Yet?

Two questions about registering your most important money making domains...

1) Besides .com, have you registered your most important domains in other countries like China (.cn), India (.in), European Union (.eu), or other countries?

2) If you did, why did you do it? If you did not, why haven't you done that?

Thanks
Steve

i havent created domains for different countries yet, because i dont know the market of each country and how people respond to buying things online. cultural, langauge barriers and a whole bunch of other factors are needed to be taken into consideration if you want to make a profit when dealing with people living in different countries.

I was wondering about this because I got an email from a domain name registrar in another country telling me that some company wants to register my domain (a .com) in all these other countries. I realize it could be bogus because why bother asking me to register them if they already have someone that wants to, you know?

Are .com domains visible to everyone in the world? And are .cn's (for example) only visible to people in China?

It is bogus. Someone else on WF got one like that. They just want to try to scare you into registering those domains ... through them, of course.

Yeah I realize it was probably bogus but it still got me to thinking if it is worth to register domains for my main money site with the deals for other countries.

      David,

No, you don't. Perhaps on the UK one, I haven't done one of those, but I have U.S. clients with .cn for example, no questions asked.

I don't know about other countries but I read once that to get a .ca you have to have a business license in Canada or you have to prove that you live in Canada (I live in US BTW )

I think it might be the same for other countries too.

    No I haven't and I won't either.

I understand locking up .net and .org but what's the point of registering domain names for countries that you have no relation with?

I mean, they don't outrank .com, .net or .org (atleast I haven't seen them do that) and they are also more expensive so there's no point trying to go for them.

EDIT:I haven't tested them so I don't know if they rank good in the country you have an extension for but I will check it out.
