Product Creation & PLR Question

I have read that you should create your own product to sell vs. selling someone else's product. Is selling PLR packages just as good as selling your own product since you get just about everything you need for one price vs creating your own product? Using PLR you're still building your own list, right? What is the benefit to the person who created the PLR, why do they create packages for people to sell? Just trying to understand it all.

Thanks!

People create and sell PLR products for many reasons. Sometimes it's a product that they've sold themselves and just no longer want to put the time into it. Other people create them because they like to write or create products but hate to market.

Yes, you can take a PLR product and make it into something beneficial to your list. You should be rewriting it, at least a bit, to put it in your own voice and perhaps add something from your own experience to it, if you can. Definitely change out the graphics and create a new title for it, too. You want it to be unique to you.

You can just send it to your list as is but you're taking the risk that they already have it or are given it by another marketer. If you don't make changes, it's probably a good idea to let them know upfront that you didn't create it but you thought it would be useful to them.

As someone who does both create my own products, create PLR, and use PLR for bonuses, I wanted to chime in here.

The reason I use PLR in my business is to pad areas in which I'm weak (less experience, more tactics, etc to make product even more valuable), use it so I don't have to recreate the wheel (there's only so many ways to say "create a list"), and sometimes it's just fun to have a structure already set out with basic information and I just add my own tips, tricks, and experiences.

Creating PLR is fun because it gets you involved with a different type of customer. Many people buy PLR to actually use it (although they don't end up doing so...their intent is to use it). I like these customers because they seem to be less of a hassle and are less "high maintenance" if you know what I mean

Anyhow, hope that clears some stuff up. I've made a decent amount of money creating PLR and also creating my own products with and without PLR and I think it's one of the few blessings in internet marketing.

    Cheers,

    Brad

Some people create PLR products in order to sell them to marketers for the following reasons:

1 - They know we are looking for quality PLR products

2 - They don't want to deal with the hassle of marketing their products to the general public

3 - They enjoy creating and selling a limited amount of their products

4 - They can quickly and easily create and sell their products

The reason people buy PLR products is because high quality PLR is just as valuable to an experienced marketer as their own products. There are so many ways you can make money with PLR content that full blown courses have been created in order to show everything that can be done.

    Respectfully,

Really nothing beats creating your own product, particularly if you are knowledgeable in your niche. However, many marketers see the benefit of utilizing PLR products as the base for their own products. It can help to stimulate ideas and gives them a blueprint to work from. Without question, you should always re-write your PLR and add your 'own voice.'

From a writers perspective, I chose to start creating PLR products, in addition to writing original content, because I could see the demand in the marketplace was high.

Despite its less than glamorous image, PLR is a handy tool for marketers as they can access cost effective content plus speed up the writing process. The catch is, you want to ensure it is decent quality and avoid using the unlimited 'free for all' PLR licenses which saturate the internet.

Lots of good comments for you here. The only thing I'd add is that, while I usually write my own products, on the occasions when I do use PLR, I rewrite a minimum of 50% and usually shoot for 80%. I basically use it as a starting point because I don't want my product to be like anyone else's product; plus I like to think I'm making it a good bit better.

my vote has always been with plr from the onset

with plr i got so many thing done on time and i dont need to start cracking my brain on research, as most have already been done.

all i just have to do is add my voice, tweak it here and there to make it more unique

in fact with plr products its a blessing to many Internet marketers who are just starting out1

Good responses above, but the bottom line is that you can make a stack of cash by selling PLR itself!

I use PLR products mainly as bonuses or list building incentives but I am looking into using them to actually sell as well. I buy PLR articles all the time and have them re-written. Its less expensive to have a re-write done than original content.

I'm in no way knocking PLR marketing and believe it makes sense on many levels. I would however like to address a few of the reasons why I believe so strongly in personal product creation:

    1. To me business is about more than the bottom line of making money (Although this is hugely important). Our working hours encompass such a huge chunk of our lives and I believe it makes sense to create a work environment that allows us to express ourselves. In other words, instead of working to live, why not allow work to be a personal expression of our lives.
    2. Each and every person is a unique gift to the world with a blend of attributes that no one else can duplicate. Every person has at least one book, audio or video in them. They just might not know how to get it out (I love helping people to do this).
    3. When you combine 1 & 2 and develop a system that allows you to consistently express your passions and interests through product creation, you've taken the excitement of work to a whole new level while filling at least a small void in the world around you (and you get to make money to boot!).

Selling your own product is the best way. Selling PLR package is not as good as selling your own product because there are hundreds or maybe thousands of people selling the same PLR packages.

    - Because they want easy money from people that do not have their own products.

Sure, if you just turn around and sell the PLR untouched but if you read ANY of the above posts, you can see that this is not the smartest way to use PLR.

There is NO best way. Some people do wonderful creating their own products, others do great with PLR, still others make a terrific living selling other people's products - guess what? They're all doing things the best way.

And even if you go the "as is" route (though I don't recommend it), you would probably be shocked at how few people actually do anything with the PLR products they buy the rights to.

I love creating and selling my own stuff but I wont look a gift horse in the mouth, and PLR is a very useful gift horse.

I have in the past sold, given as freebies too my list, used to bulk up a package and used them as a reference point for writing my own stuff(mainly articles).

The great thing about PLR content is the time you save. You should go back and make PLR unique with your voice, but the time in doing that vs the time in writing from scratch is much, much less.

I write as well as rewrite my own content. Sort of like repurposing as not to waste good content. That said I think PLR is great. It not just a time saver but gives great content (of course this depends on the amount of research done initially).

It makes sense to put your own personality on the plr content otherwise it will simply not seem unique. Having read a lot of ebooks I have noticed that a lot of gurus make money with PLR content by simply using it as a skeleton and putting some flesh on it.

Some plr are really just poorly written content and written around just one keyword.
I usually add stuff to my plr and rewrite it to a minimum of 65% so that my audience can benefit.

IMers are looking for content for blogs and autoresponder follow up series so plr is alive and so is rewriting!

      Cheerio
