Why I Ask Warriors Versus Googling Something

I saw a post here recently - Big Mike, was it by you? Forgive me for not remembering - I have amnesia a bit about the details as I skimmed by quickly on my way out the door.

But anyway, it was something about how helpful it is to go to Google before asking the same questions repeatedly in Warrior Forum that have been asked many times before.

For a split second I felt guilt reading it. I was like, "Oops - that's me - when I have a question about a strategy, I come here." Now if it's a question like "what does SEO mean?" then yeah, Google's my friend.

Anyway, I wanted to explain why I personally prefer posting at the Warrior Forum over Googling to get my info.

I don't have much trust in many marketers.

If I Google something, I have NO clue if the site I'm reading it from is giving me good advice or not.

If I post here, I not only get a variety of answers from helpful Warriors, but I'm able to see a reputation of sorts and determine if that person is trustworthy to as much of a degree as I'm able to online.

For example, I am lost on PPC. I have Googled it. There's so much conflicting advice out there. So I posted in WF for help. A dozen or so marketers immediately offered to lend a hand. I was able to see - has this person been around here for awhile? Have they been thanked quite a bit for their helpfulness? I can even look at their previous posts and interaction with other Warriors to see if it's someone I feel comfortable listening to for advice ir if it appears they're just here to make a quick buck, find a few JV partners and move on like locusts.

It's not foolproof, of course...

But the Warrior Forum is the reason I'm making money online. If not for this hangout, I wouldn't have met the people who taught me what I needed to know - they were all Warriors. All of them.

So when you see a post from me asking something I could probably Google, you'll know it's because I value the members over everything else.

I agree Tiffany, the warrior forum is very transparent.

Say, you've got a great attitude, and Im sure a great list. We should talk about a JV!

(sorry, couldn't resist, its April Fools at the moment in Australia!)

I do agree with your mistrust of Google for IM resources at times, especially trying to read a non biased review of a marketing product. Try searching for Traffic Ultimatum Review, you have 10 pages of affiliate links!

Newbies should use the 'search' function more though

Totally agree with you, I like to see what others think of my post etc... but, when questions like "what is the best traffic source?" I feel that the search function here on the forum will suffice. But yeah, I do like the interaction and the possible split views on a subject .

I often joke that there is nothing that Google doesn't know. But, you have to ask the question in the right way, or Google may not give you the right answer. If you ask the question here at WF, then you can interact with the folks that answer, and if they don't understand your question, they will ask you to be more clear.

All in all, I agree with you Tiffany. Try Google and see what comes up, then come here to get more or better information.

    Hey Tiffany,

I agree with you, I learned so much more by just reading this warrior forum and seeing the answers that people got a long time before even registering.

If you Google something, you get a wealth of info, but who knows how credible it is!?

I think the best thing I found was getting some real honest opinions on tools or resources that actual people are using rather than a review site put up by a hungry marketer just looking for commission.

I am with you on this one!

Hey I'm glad some others feel the same way I do. A lot of times when I post a question I almost feel guilty because there are people who don't want to 'clutter' the forum with repeated questions.

But truthfully, after thinkin about it, much of the time I'm sure the same people don't always see them, and it helps other members with questions they may have but forgot about.

Plus it can be so frustrating search Google some times, then I'll want to come here and post a question asking which source I found in Google is the best! Having some other marketers to talk with is a real help IMO.

        Very true.

Yes you get repeated questions but most people don't go through the whole forum. They just go through the first page and that's it so that's not repeated question.

Classic example of marketers eating the industry (NOT ALL, but many)

All this hard SEO work, backlinking, spun content, tricks, tweaks, software...

...alot of the time, pushing out content that is pure junk, and with the sole purpose of trying to sell, not inform.

This creates a huge amount of distrust that the searcher has with the SERPs, because you know it's either a fake review, a presell, sales letter, or article with no content...or an affiliate pretending to be an expert in a subject where the dollar signs mean more than the person handing them over to him/her.

So instead of making the sale, their searchers go elsewhere to get the right info...and as we all know, there's plenty 'a places to go to get REAL info these days, what with social sites, forums and the like.

Personally, that's why I've never really bothered with SEO, and didn't blink when Google told me that my 2 year running PPC account had to be closed (for no reason).

Big deal. I'll go to Facebook :-)

Hey Nick that's a really good point. Although I think a lot of 'normal' people who don't do internet marketing are fooled most of the time when they see a fake review site or such.

But this is one of the main reasons why it's good to focus on more than one advertising method. Do all SEO and you could see your income dry up.

        .
I agree, but I think that's changing too. People aren't stupid. I've seen my own relatives do Google searches and the way they behave is very revealing...

They only look at a couple of results from the first page, most of them click a link, and look for the info on the following page. If it's not exactly what they were looking for, they are gone.

This is why Google is gutting out affiliates, crappy purpose built pages etc...to PROTECT users AND legit marketers. If more people start to feel the way Tiffany does (OP), then people will start looking elsewhere for their answers...

...and as a result? About 70% of online marketers are gonna be up sh#t creek without a paddle.

Just a reminder to anyone reading this, by typing in
    site:warriorforum.com
at the beginning of your Google search, you can find search results only on the Warrior forum.

So if you google: site:warriorforum.com help ppc
you'll only find Warrior forum threads with those search terms in it.

You can search using the forum search as well of course, but depending on the forum software being used, searching google that way often finds better results. After doing that, THEN you post your question if you haven't found your answer.

This is exactly what I have been doing for the last one year whenever I wanted to search IM information. My first search would have the clause site:warriorforum.com and most often I end up never doing a second search!

Agree 100% that the warrior forum is the best place for getting information. Someone advised me to try another forum last week and to me it was like mixing with a bunch of kids. There was little or no information there. It was like a social media site in comparison to this. All the warriors deserve a pat on the back. I get so much information here - I love to be part of it.

I agree completely. Google is great for researching facts. There really is no disputing facts but for things more subjective it really does help to have the knowledge and insight of such a great community to help you.

For example, I spent a few days researching different forms of incorporating, and I couldn't make my mind which way to go. Then just an hour ago I came upon a thread in here about corporations, and in just few minutes I learned and knew what type of corporation is the best for me.

Do you see why Google trusts pagerank now?

Assuming that manipulation of backlink occurs with a random uniformness, pagerank is nothing but a social vote of relative trust. Google can not really belog to all societies in the world, so it takes a birds' eye view and trusts the votes of higher pagerank (recursive defition) to be higher.

We, being humans, can not compute the "trust pagerank" for every related page in the world. And Warrior Forum is a place where we have "people with the REAL social pagerank" if you know what I mean.

Hence, Warrior Forum. The place of Real experts (with a power law dirtribution in expertise) in our areas of profession.

Kudos to Allen for creating this wonderful place - he goes beyond what a thanks button can express

I like to use Google for my initial research and then head over here to the WF and see what other Warriors have to say on the matter. Google is great but it only gives you the relevant results for your search - not necessarily the right answer - and it also relies on you using the correct search string in the first place!

I like the Warrior Forum because it's more difficult for people to get away with spewing garbage. There is usually someone who'll take that person down a notch or two.

I try to be careful when I post because the last thing I want is for someone to telling me I'm full of BS - I've seen it happen many times (but never to me, so please don't start now!)

I like that fact that we have post, thanks, and thanked counts here as well. As Steven Wagenheim said in another thread, that doesn't always mean anything, but it does give an idea of that Warrior's background and knowledge level.
