Email address on site. @ vs at

I see a lot of people not posting their email address correctly on their site. Are you doing this because bots will come along and spam you? For example, rather than listing it as email@hotmail.com you put email (at) hotmail.com

Aren't you worried that the 25% ( maybe more ) of the population doesn't "get it"

I know in my experience, when dealing with any one over the age of 40, they are not very familiar with the web, and may not completely understand to replace the (at) with the @ symbol.

Just curious if you thought you were missing emails and your reasons.

I would almost definitely bet that seniors would have a problem figuring that one out. I deal with a lot of seniors and some of them are just not purchasing computers. Nothing against them, they just come from a different time.

PS. Does anyone know a free place to build a contact us form? Probably solve the problem right there.

If spam is a problem, use an encrypted form, to do that correctly you need to be using SSL and are as likely as not to end up displaying, "not all items are secure' warning which is meaningless, but as you said, older web users do not know that.
I have found I get more spam from having my email at this forum from IM folk that I never opted into than from the places on the web I have it click-able.

    Hi

Generally changing the '@' to 'at' is an attempt to deter email spammer bots

If you are using Wordpress then I suggest trying this contact form plugin, very easy to setup (even I managed to set it up with no problems!)

Contact Form 7: Just another contact form plugin for WordPress. Simple but flexible.

    Best of luck

Here's a great trick. I use an IMAGE of my actual email address. It will be displayed just like info@domain.com ... but you cant click it. Because it's an image spam-bots won't pick it up but normal people don't have a problem sending me an e-mail.

    Any questions let me know

That's a pretty good idea. I never thought of that.

Do a search for email address hider or something to that effect. There's a lot of javascript functions out there which will make your email appear jumbled to spam bots, but otherwise fine to regular browsers.
