Looking for membership site script... but with 'social' features in it?

I am wondering if anyone knows of a membership script that not only manages content, but also lets members have profiles, instant messaging, their own blog (necessary for what I am doing) and other 'social' type features?

I looked into joomla, as they have community builder and drip feeding modules, and everything I want. But I cant figure out how to get them to work. I found a couple of places that would install it for me, but we are talking about hundreds of dollars to do it.

So I am looking for an "all in one" type thing, if of course it even exists. I do have easy member pro, but again that is just a content management type system, nothing social about it.

I dont mind paying hundreds of dollars for something, but when we are talking about 'modules' and 'components' I dont know if something could go wrong later on down the road (plus I heard someone say not to use open source when dealing with paid memberships).

I would much prefer a solution that wouldnt need me to be an expert or hire an expert to handle it.

Any suggestions?

    Hey,

Go with Wordpress Mu and BuddyPress

I have it on my Forex site in my signature.

    Works great.

I'm working on a paid module, which won't be hard to create off the register page, but as of now it is a free membership.

This is definitely the social aspect I am looking for, but I couldnt find any reference to having paid members, where I can drip feed the content to them overtime.

This looks very promising. You say you are working on a paid module. Does that mean you are having it created? Or that you are using an existing one? I found this one: WordPress › s2Member ( Membership w/ PayPal Integration ) also works w/ BuddyPress WordPress Plugins

This seems to have the social angle I was looking for. And it being wordpress makes me comfortable as I am familiar with it.

If I may ask, do you know if the following is possible with buddypress and wp mu:

        - one login (so they register once and have access to everything, like forums)
        - adding an optin box to the registration page
        - being able to drip feed my content to them over 4 weeks or so
        - able to customize page they first see after login

Thank you so much! I think this is what I have been looking for. Easy, a platform I am familiar with and low cost.

        Thanks
        Ashley

If you are using WordPress you should check out the plugin "Mingle"...

It's not a membership script per se - but you can use to turn your WP blog into a social network. They also have a cool add-on plugin called "mingle forum" which lets you set up a forum quickly and easily.

I haven't used Mingle for it's social aspect but I have used the forum plugin as a stand-alone and it worked great.

You can use this in addition to any "regular" membership script if you can't find one that does both.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Coby

P.S. Forgot to mention - Mingle is free form the WP repository.
