I don't get Landing pages and the power of them

I read alot about the power of landing pages, but I don't get it. I hear from a SEO perspective, having content regularly updated with specific keywords is key - you can't do that with a landing page....right? You write the sales page once. Since I could figure out how to get people to go to a landing page, I never created one. But I hear so much on the forums about it, maybe i am missing something. For those who have landing pages, how do you get people to view them when you can't use the most common SEO techniques?? Do people only view landing pages through paid advertising?? Thanks in advance.

    I think a customer is more likely to convert if you presell them, or make them jump through hoops to get to your product because it raises the value in their eyes because it's like its a "protected and guarded secret"

    you sound like you think "landing page <> nice looking, often updated blog"

    I switched LONG AGO from the static, one-page "landing pages" to wordpress blogs. Here i chose one static front page and can add content any time i want. This is the reason why a wordpress "landing page" will always very likely outrank a static landing page.

      A good landing page can definitely rank well in the SERPs. I've worked on many that rank on the front page, quite a few in one of the first 3 positions. If you have enough content on the page and choose your keywords carefully, it's not that difficult to rank.

    You are geting a bit muddled up, landing pages are meant to be written once only, and not have too much onpage optimisation, but just be a mini sales pitch to get an optin page.

    Now a site can have a number of pages - 10-1000 pages of optimized webpages, which will be added daily, ie the site will be updated with specific keywords regularly (when you upload it)

    So i wouldnt consider a landing page to be considered as a SEO optimized page too much, compared to a page with an article on. but like people have said, it can still rank high!

    The power of them? This is to build a list, a targetted list, which you can promote to and make money off. and trust me, there is a lot of power with this list...if you market right!
