How to have aff. links on your site without getting banned

Ok, so a few days ago, I did some research, found a domain that I could rank for, bought it (it's a clickbank product review site "blahblahblahreview.com"),

first thing I did was I put up an about me page, a contact and privacy page, and then 2 blog posts.

Then I got indexed and I was at #1 in google.

Then YESTERDAY i added affiliate links.

TODAY my site is gone from google. when I type the site in quotes, it's not even there.

BTW, when I type the keywords in quotes, there are less than 10 total pages ranking for that keyword, so it's not possible that someone is outranking me, I just got un-indexed I guess.

#1. How the heck are you supposed to promote affiliate products on a blog?

#2. I guess I'm kinda using the Google Sniper method, building a few pages, getting the site ranked, then adding affiliate links (redirect aff. links). Does that still work?

#3. Will I get banned for putting an opt-in page also?

#4. So I understand keyword research and how to get a good domain and then how to get that domain ranking, but how do you start promoting an affiliate product without getting punished.

All thoughts are welcome and appreciated. Darn I'm so mad. I thought I was learning cool stuff...

New domains/sites tend to always show up at the top of search results for a few days and then disappear for a while. Then Google will put them whever they belong.

Nothing to do with adding links to your site, just the standard rotation for new sites.

You just got into the Sandbox, that is all. Google will put a site in there that get up to the top too quickly. Eventually, your site will show up again --just have to be patient and then you will know where you stand in terms of ranking for the long term.

Yeah completely agree with above. I've never had any experience of google punishing a sites rankings for having supposedly too many affiliate links

Yep, what Greg said.... Perfectly normal and nothing to do with having affiliate links.

#1. Is it normal for it to COMPLETELY disappear?

#2. Is there anything wrong with my method of setting up a domain with wordpress, putting up some valuable content along with about, contact, privacy, etc.

Then wait till its indexed and then add affiliate links?

    Is that a safe method?

First of all, are you really de-indexed or just dropped from the rankings? To check, go to Google and search "site:http://www.yoururl.com". If results show up, you haven't been dropped from the index, you just aren't ranking. This is pretty common - it's called the Google dance, which simply means that it takes time for Google to determine where it wants to put your site in it's rankings.

Don't panic - just keep adding quality content and building good backlinks and you'll get back on top eventually.

    Sarah, when I type in

    "site:http://www.myurl.com" for my site,

    I get NO RESULTS.

and I used to be on the first page. So it looks like I got completely wiped.

As others have said, it shouldn't have anything to do with aff links. Google now runs its own aff network, so unless they are only allowing aff links to their own guys, they would be shooting themselves in the foot to penalize sites with aff links. ... But Google has always had a messy relationship with affiliate marketers, so who knows? They may have had some type of "penalties" in the past and there is still some residual effect. (That's pure and utter reckless speculation, by the way. ... I specialize in it.)

I would say just keep adding valuable content. I've had a similar experience and just continued with my linking strategies, RSS submission, bookmarking, etc. and eventually got back in the game. Sometime it's just hard to figure out the "rationale". You can do the exact same things for keywords with similar competitiveness and have one rank #1 and another at #27. If you have a strategy that generally works for you just keep working on it, and make sure you stay on top of the latest strategies that working well.
