Free Marketing To Die For!

Went over to CNN.com to catch the latest news and there on the main heading section it's all about the iPad. Everything else is pushed down below.

We know Apple are the masters of buzz and in a whole different league but I was wondering if any Warriors have gotten free publicity either nationally or from your local news channel outlet. Even if it's just a mention to one of your sites. And how did you do it? (they came to you or you reached out to them). And did the money traffic/sales follow?

Crazy isn't it? It's all about marketability.

I don't have any experience with getting into big publications like that - but I just thought it was hilarious to see what our priorities are.

I've gotten onto local radio stations. All I did was email the local talk radio host, told them I am a local guy that had written a book with some brief bullet points about me and the book and how to contact me. Both hosts called me with in 24 hours and I was on the radio within a week.

Super simple. Seriously. I did not follow the "protocols" of sending out a media package to these guys. I just sent a really simple email. That is it. That is all it takes.

I had them record the interview and send me the MP3 so I could put it on my site.

Yes it works, before I even got back to my office people were blowing up the phone lines.

Having an interview like this really sets you up as the "Obvious Expert"

Another little tip here that many people are not aware of and that is that many local talk shows you can actually pay to get interviewed and promote your business on their shows. Usually it is 10 to 15 minute section. I did this monthly after the success of speaking about my book.

Just call the radio stations that have a local talk radio and ask to speak with their sales rep and see if they offer this. It is relatively cheap too. $100 to $150 is what I paid. Money well spent to create instant credibility with customers and clients.

There are some more regionally focused syndicated talk shows that you can do this with as well. Heck, there may be national shows too. But I've never checked into this as my business is regional.

If you think being on the radio is scary...it kind of is....but is really a lot of fun. These guys are professionals and know what they are doing and make it very easy for you. In fact what they want is a list of questions from you. So you already know what they are going to ask. It is really a ton of fun and I highly recommend it to anyone.

    Marketing Tips:
Don't forget to get an MP3 for your site.
Make sure to add the radio stations logos on your site
Add "As Heard On KKWR" or what ever other station you were on.
Make sure to use the hosts name as well as they are a "celebrity" there fame rubs off on you.
Send out press releases to announce your appearance - not just online but to your local papers too.
Send out press releases after your appearance with links to the interview on your site.

    Thanks
    Matt
