Best way to build good traffic?

I've followed many links over the last couple months to "good", free/inexpensive ways to build traffic to my websites. However, most sites/systems require that I sign up and pass out an affiliate link to sign other people up to their site to generate traffic to my own. Honestly, I'd rather spend that time promoting my own sites and increasing my own traffic than increasing their traffic.

But how?

I'm sorry, but I'm still very new to all of this. I've done a bit of keyword research and SEO optimization (to the best of my understanding, submitting the sites to all those social bookmarking sites, Twitter "spamming" (tho, it's very targeted, and I've toned it down to not get many unfollows), and I even did some PPC with extremely targeted keywords (using two coupons) and that didn't pay off.

I'm seriously not sure what to do. I'm really ready to stop reading senseless drivel and stop signing up to these websites and try something that works!

Thanks for all your upcoming advice,
Steven

You might wanna look into article marketing or web 2.0 marketing (squidoo, hubpages, youtube etc.)

Also try forums in your niche.

    Hi! IMHO,

I think you can try blogging, social networking and article marketing. Give some valuable information and sure you will be noticed and win the traffic.

    Wish that can help you.

Hey man, I was just like you not too long ago. There is so much mis-information out there on SEO and promotion in general that I felt like I couldn't get together a game plan for my sites...

...that has all changed now. Two things have made a tremendous impact on my financial well being. The first one is David Jenyns theseomethod.com (not an affiliate link). This is the BEST, straight forward SEO training on the planet. It costs about $87 and is worth far more.

The other thing that helped me out tremendoulsly was realizing that things take time...even on the internet. I'm extremely impatient and want everything to work right now, but that's not possible in most cases.

So, here's my advice. Get some training on SEO. Make sure your site is providing value. And work a CONSISTENT plan over the next 6 months. Consistency is the key.

      Hope that helps a little.

I have been having some good luck with facebook fanpages along with FB ppc for targeted niches (small daily budget maybe $10/day). Linking to my website from my fanpage that has multiple followers w/comments. I feel like I jumped a page in SERP pretty quickly once I had some daily fresh content linking to my page from an authority site. Sorry if I'm off topic or missing the thread entirely.

Blogging and article marketing are the two methods that have always worked best for me.

I do other things too, but those two work best.

You do have to have some patience though, as the traffic will not appear overnight (regardless of hwat some salespages will tell you)

I feel web2.0 and article marketing work better and fast than others. There are plenty of web2.0 networking sites that have huge amount of traffic, having a link on them can get some portion of that traffic (do not spam) and they will help you to rank better on search engines. This way you get even more traffic (natural). Submit few articles every day and you can get good traffic from the directories and also from SEs.

Minimum investment, may take longer: Article Marketing (article directories, web 2.0 sites, forums)

      May be expensive, quick: PPC
