Anyone Upgrade to Camtasia 7 yet?

Hey I was just wondering...is anyone upgrading to Camtasia 7?

I don't notice a lot of stuff on their page about why I should.

Any help would be wonderful.

Cheers,

Brad

I did and I liked it.

It's not very different from Camtasia 6 but they made the voice editing better in 7 and also i liked how they added the timer on the bar when you are recording. It helps you keep track of time.

I didn't really find some amazing new tool or something after the upgrade but i upgraded just because I wanted the latest version.

EDIT: Just found out about the Powerpoint recording add on and it's really really cool. You can record a powerpoint from inside the powerpoint window.

Me too. Upgraded and it is a little more refined but nothing extraodinary.

I want to, but can't as I started the Video Production Lab Workshop with Cam 6. Also, don't want to force members to upgrade.

Anyone know if, by any chance (just my dream) they have added a second PiP track? That would allow some awesome effects.

I have not done it yet... am about to.

I did notice in one of Techsmith's emails, version 7 will now record from the same sound source as your speakers, (6 would not). This gives you the ability to copy and save any videos you see. It would be good for keeping a copy of any video courses to which you subscribe.

could that get into any legal issues, if you copied sound recordings of peoples audios? or have they put a legal note in their terms and conditions.

      Hey Don,

You can do it in Cam6 with the WhatUHear option on your sound card. You may just need to update your drivers.

I haven't a clue. I am not talking about recording a video to sell it or distribute it to others, but to make it easy for us to archive and view again.

Right now I am trying to study some Billy Mays Ads - his short 2 minute commercials are a work of art in copywriting. Most of them on Youtube have had other audio overdubbed as people try to turn these into some bizzare type of joke.

However, there are some good copies of his videos on Youtube, and when I write out a transcription of the audio, with notations about what was going on in the video, I learn more about Billy's style of writing.

Maybe it's not legal. I'm not an attorney. And mine is asleep on the couch at the moment. I won't wake her.

I upgraded. I think it's nice that it's looking more like a real video editing program.

I've been doing some recordings from PowerPoint, and when you finish the PP recording, it asks if you want to stop (optional) and then you save the camrec file. Whatever they did, it's great because the file now saves in mere seconds rather than a minute or so.

Rendering seems slower for MP4 than for SWFs, but the results are generally better for the MP4 files now.

Cutting things out of the timeline seems faster now too -- you don't have to wait very long before you can continue with your editing. That said, all of these editing things have been addressed in audio and video editing software for over a decade now, so it's hard to figure why these guys can't make the edits operate more instantly.

(I use Cool Edit Pro for audio editing, which is a 12-year old piece of software. When I delete chunks of audio from the timeline, it's no slower than deleting a word or paragraph from a word processor. You highlight a segment, click the delete key, then hit the play button to continue. No noticeable delay unless it's a fairly long segment and you've got auto-save enabled for allowing undo operations. Camtasia has longer delays when deleting stuff at the front than at the end, sometimes several seconds, and that's just on a 10-min video.)
