Rookie Internet Marketer!

Why am I finding keyword research so difficult?
What's the best method of finding long tail keywords with decent search volume.
Is viewing the page source of a competing website a significant way to determine whether or not I may outrank with a simple wordpress blog?

Use the google external keyword search, and look for words with 3,4,5,6,7 words in them, which are considered long keyword phrases.

Then look at the amount of searches they get a month, anything between 2000 + is good.

Words in them ranges can be considered to be used for your site.

Make sure to select "exact" from the drop down menu also for search criteria within the adwords tool. I always look for under 10k competing sites. Don't get frustrated, your goign against all the thousands of other marketers hunting too, but those keywords are out there!

Go to Google Adwords Keyword Tool and put in your keywords.

You will see a list across the top that reads: Keywords, Advertiser Competition, Local Search Volume: (Month), Global Monthly Search Volume, then a menu for Broad, Phrase, Exact, and Negative.

You can use the "Broad" or "Exact" to get some quick ideas.

Really the two main sections you want to concentrate on are the Monthly Searches and the Advertiser Competition.

The ideal keywords would have a lot of monthly searches while not having too much competition.

You can look at the little "green bar" over the competition and see how full it is for different words.

If you can find something that gets plenty of searches and half or less of the "green bar", then you can probably compete for that keyword.

The next step is to put that keyword into Google search and see what comes up on the first page.

If most of the sites listed are articles from directories, then you have a keyword that should be pretty easy to write about and get some good results.

Is it better to add new posts, or new pages to rank for new keywords?

The best method of finding CONVERTING long taik keywords is to test it thru PPC first with your site. Theres absolutely NO POINT in optimizing something fro SEO if you dont even know the keyword works for your offer and your site.

That's why you want to test it with PPC first.

Any questions just let me know
