What would a website be worth if it met the following criteria:

Age of website: 12 months
Niche: data recovery
Earnings: nil - site never monitised
Traffic: 30,000 unique visitors a month via 100% organic search engine traffic.
Size of website: 50 pages

The website is SEO optimised, it has quality, relevant backlinks, and requires about 5 hours work (building content, generating backlinks etc) per month.

Would $30K be a fair price?

How do you come to that price?

What's to say it will ever make any money?

So far all you've said is - It gets some traffic that may be able to be monetized to some level.

    Nothing worth paying $30k for.

It's only worth what someone is willing to pay.

I wouldn't pay $4k for that without knowing more about the traffic and monetization options.

I reckon it could earn about $3K adsense alone based on the traffic.

The following site recently sold for $80K on flippa - adsense earnings $3K/month... and generated half of this traffic.

See the massive difference though - Adsense earnings.

Your site has ZERO Adsense earnings.

Multiply that 12 and see what you get.

So why don't you just slap the Adsense on and make it easier to prove that it can earn that sort of revenue?

Having sold a big website a couple of years ago I can safely tell you that there are many factors involved when selling a site and valuing it. But it's a lot easier to do when the revenue speaks for itself.

Depends on the traffic (country) source, visitors profile. 30K ? Not even remotely close, even all traffic is from Western Countries + AUS.

A site with no revenue and a potential asking price of $30k i am not sure how you got that figure ??? a site is worth 'only' what someone is willing to pay for it and saying it 'could' earn $3k a month is not what potential buyer want to hear.

A very basic rule that gives a very rough guideline is 10x monthly revenue and as your site has nil earnings so far that is half the equation out the window straight away.

With the information that you have provided i feel you asking price for such a site would be way down from your 'fair' price.

We could be wrong and good luck with your sale, you will have to update us if you find a buyer.

It always amazes me when people say the site isn't earning any money so it is not worth anything. Well why is it that domain names, yes just the name, no website nada, zip, have sold for big dollars, some even in the 7 figures?
It is all to do with what a buyer is willing to pay. If someone sees potential i.e. like 30,000 unique visitors a month, then they may be willing to pay a lot for that.
Now the trick is finding that buyer.

No-one is saying it's not worth anything.

Just that coming up with a figure when there's ZERO revenue is not as easy as when you can base it on revenue.

Selling the domain is a separate issue. If it has intrinsic value to someone then you would obviously factor that in - separately from it's revenue value.

So - you can stop being amazed - we're all saying the same thing.

I fully agree. Selling sites is comparable to selling houses in that you might get lucky, and find a buyer who wants the property for the location so badly, they're prepared to pay over the odds. In your case, this would involve finding someone who is already monetising data recovery traffic and wants an instant hit of 30K uniques pcm to their existing operation.

Even if you we're to find the ideal buyer, 30K is a little on the optimistic side.

This is unless we've all missed a trick - and your site is something like
            Code:
            www.data.com
            - in which case, I'll give you 30K right now

              twitter is a good example.

Currently earns zero revenue but would be sold for millions due to the potential earnings once it gets monetised.

Your best bet is going to be to put up Adsense or some type of monetization for 60 days and then you'll have an established value. Who knows, it might be significantly more than $30k. Right now it's all speculative to those of us in the forum who purchase websites. We need more data to give you a valuation.

However, if you can target a company that needs exactly the traffic you have, then you can get a significant premium or sell a website with no revenue for a large sum.

Based on the data you've given us so far, you're going to continue to get an answer you don't like, though.

Sorry havent read through all the reply posts.

But for me, the best bet to price this since it has no earnings and future earnings are probably hard to predict is to conduct a comparable type valuation and see what similar characteristic websites are selling for.

If you want to get a real worth of your website you need to monetize it for at last 30 days. Then multiply it X 10 (most websites is valued such way on Flippa) and you will get you answer.

You're right about the intrinsic nature and value of the traffic but if you can't monetise that traffic then it is worthless unless another buyer can take it on, change the focus without losing the traffic and then remonetise it.

The first thing I would do is slap some adsense onto the site and try and earn something out of it even if only to keep the coffers going while you find a buyer if thats the route you want to go down.
