Website Flipping - The Arbitrage Method

Here is a cool arbitrage method you can incorporate into your site flipping models..

Arbitrage.

Arbitrage is used in many markets, to yield profits. It is basically buying and selling. This buying and selling specifically takes place in different market places, to exploit a potential profit run.

What I am about to talk about, is arbitrage, for websites.

There are many places on the internet to sell your website, which all have different amount of visitors/traffic. This means that not all the market places will have the same amount of buyers.

Set up.

You will be looking to buy websites which have traffic trickling through, at bargain prices. You will then relist this website on a higher marketplace, in the hopes of making a profit on it!

Where you can find websites that have some sellers, but a significant lower ratio of buyers, you can take advantage of the difference.

Due to the lack of visits/sales, they will often lower the price, because they are eager or desperate for the sale, for whatever reason, i.e. need the funds.

Here are some places, with relatively a low ratio of buyers, compared to a marketplace like flippa or WF.

(I wont put in the URL's, incase we are not allowed to. But you can easily find them in Google).

- Talk Freelance
- V7N
- Net Builders
- DN Forum
- Ebay
- Namepros

The higher end of the scale, as mentioned, would be:

- Flippa
- Warrior Forum

Popular sites that sell, are blogs, niche product sites, product sites and e-commerce.

Tips.

Try and look for sites that have a good design. This will be a strong selling point. And of course, you are looking out for sites with traffic, and even some revenue if possible.

Sometimes you could try contacting the seller directly, via the market place, and see if they would consider selling at an even lower price than listed. You never know! Nothing wrong with a bit of haggling!

Make sure you have a killer sales page when you list your site. Some don't have any info, or even lack of proof. Provide traffic proof where possible!

    Cool Thank you for sharing.

This is a technique that I have not yet come across before.

Although, I am very familiar with website flipping (I flip websites that I create) but never explored this concept before.

So again, thank you for this excellent idea isha

    Isha.

You never need to hope anything with arbitrage Isha, otherwise it would not be arbitrage. Arbitrage is something that is a sure thing. But is an interesting way

Good list of places on the lower end. Great information for those who just want to BUY websites and profit off them rather than just flipping them.

Yes it is used in many markets. In fact Warren Buffet uses it a lot and profits a lot finding out what company will buy another company out for a certain amount of shares. If the stock is currently at $5 a share and the buying company announces it will buy the company at $15 a share, once the deal actually goers through, you'll profit $10 per share you purchased. The same concept goes with websites.

I've done this before but with just domains, I'd buy a domain off one of those sites and I'd sell it at other lower traffic IM forums for a lot more. Of course, some of the sites you listed I've never heard or thought of before, thanks Isha!

I haven't tried selling a whole website yet, but I'm thinking of it soon as the money possibilities are probably a lot higher. I just liked the fact that I could sell the domain the very same day I bought it. Otherwise this post has inspired me to take it to the next level as soon as I stop being a lazy ass.

Thanks for this Isha - I've never really got my head around website flipping and it's on my list of things to learn in 2010. I want to rationalise my websites and only stick with a handful that I can dedicate time to so it would be good to flip the others. Interesting to know that there are other options in this space too.

I know this will sound self-promoting, but it's more of a tip:

Several of our clients are website "flippers", and what they'll do is exactly what isha says: get a site/domain on the cheap.

Then, they'll throw a bunch of links at it for a few long tail keywords and put the site up on flippa for a 5 day sale once the site hits page 1.

Cool...initially, i wanna flip domains, but I realize my mistake...you can just buy domain wholesale and try to sell for a profit. So, I am now going to be a developer....like a real estate developer, I will buy, build, sell....in between I will collent rent (Affiliate or banner sales)....

This is an fantastic post. Thanks. I can see the opportunity clearly. Making regular earnings using website arbitrage just became simplified and those sources and outlets are absolute goldmines.

Website Flipping refers to creating or buying a website and then fixing it up and selling it for profit. Depending on the time spent on developing, optimizing, and getting traffic to your website will determine the amount it is worth.

      Hey Isha,

Thanks for the golden nugget. I've never heard of those lower-end sites you listed, but I'm definitely going to look into them.

      Thanks again,

Hello to all! New users and very happy to have found this site! I have been looking for something exactly like this for years!

Concerning this post : since I'm completely new to Flipping or web sales lemme get this straight. PS. Thank You isha for your post!

Ok so I go to a site where people are a little more desperate to sell their work such as domain, websites, logo's, ect. Low ball them .. Then spend time adding value and traffic to the site, then going to flippa or higher end site and profit?

Seems simple except the adding value part, for somebody like me who has NO experience with web development or making the domain/site more popular (found some tips and trick pretty easily already) but will def take some time to effectively learn this. CAN ANYBODY RECOMMEND TESTED TUTORIAL that don't cost $$$

Or do some of you just BUY it raw and sell it in another market with no modification? and is the working for you?

Thanks again, looking forward to your responces!
