A Helpful Tip for Newbies from a Newbie

So I've struggled to make money online for almost two and a half years now. Throughout that time I haven't made that much money.

A while back I realized the single reason I wasn't seeing any success.

See I was extremely close to giving up completely and never looking back. I even put up a post saying I was thinking about, kind of a cry for help.

The support I got from this forum was absolutely ridiculous. So many people posted replies to that post with all kinds of support and encouragement to keep going.

So I decided not to give up. Instead what I did was turn off the TV, my phone, and computer, and I just laid in bed thinking.

I thought about my internet marketing journey so far, what I had done right, what I had done wrong, the money I had wasted, all that good stuff.

I was trying to clear my mind of the mountains of information that I had accumulated over those two years and make some sense out of it.

I am almost embarrassed to say this, and I don't know why it took me so long to realize it. I had more than enough knowledge to succeed online, that wasn't the issue here.

So what was it?

I wasn't focusing. For some reason it took me two and a half years to finally see that I hadn't really put a huge amount of effort into one thing, I had only put a decent amount of effort into a lot of things.

If it didn't work after a little while, I got bored and moved on. Oh how stupid.

So I decided to do something about it. The thing I knew the most about was article marketing, so I decided to start with that.

I found a niche, did some keyword research, and cracked down and wrote a ton of articles and submitted them to EZA.

Guess what happened? I got a sale a few days later. I was ecstatic and angry at myself at the same time for taking so long to see this.

What should you take away from this? Pick one method and stay focused on it for a long while and don't expect any results right away.

There have been quite a bit of posts about this but I figured I would give my experience with it because it is so important.

Stay focused! Pick one method and try it out. Power through the boredom and monotony and just stay focused.

Anyway I hope that helped at least a little.

Thanks for reading,

Kenny

I posted a thread yesterday about focus, but it never hurts to reinforce the message. Nice share, Kenny.

    Thanks for sharing, Kenny.

EzineArticles has shared a tweet which I feel is suitable to share it here:

"Article marketing is a bit like running a marathon. A steady pace will create better results than sprinting followed by inactivity."

Keep on going as I am sure that you will be one more step nearer to the finishing line as long as you progress at steady pace

Kenny - you are right that every 'newbie' should heed your advice. I wish I had known that 12 months ago when I did just as you did, surrounded myself with information and tried to do every thing at once.

Zack - that is a very good quote for us all to remember!

The beauty is you took action, you didn't give up, you didn't look for the quick fix, you learnt from what you were doing wrong, set a goal, had a plan and took action.

The biggest killer of the procrastination, if you have a problem with it try writing down a to do list and just work through it, you will get a surprising amount done.

That is an excellent story. Sometimes, you just don't know whI
you have to make mistakes to learn, and since IM is a learning curve, it seems as though you are one step closer to your goals!

    Well done,

Kenny, it is great to see that there are some newbies listening to the recommendations coming from experienced Warriors. It makes us feel like our time and contributions are well worth it and that we are not only benefiting ourselves but helping others achieve stability and success.

We all went through the transition and reflection point. We would all lie if we said that none of us reached that crossroads at which we had to STOP, take a STEP BACK, analyze and decide IF and HOW to continue. Taking on multiple projects is all part of the beginner adrenaline that just wires us up and makes us think we are machines capable of EVERYTHING!!! We aren't machines and we are capable of everything, ONLY if we learn how to pace ourselves, plan and take action when the time is right.

Good for you that you were conscious enough to reach that crossroads, smart enough to stop, witty enough to analyze and BRAVE to get up and continue FOCUSED on one thing. Cheers to your success!

The thing is many newbies jump from one method to another. If they don't see immediate results they will just say "oh that scammer, this won't make me money..." and that's pretty much it. I mean you gotta put all you can in one method and test, test, test. Do not go after the new shining thing, because, honestly, that won't make you money...

I agree with the focus on one thing comment. My main focus is on my blog, and building my Email list that is on that blog. Until you see steady income coming in on a regular basis keep putting in the time until you get there. Make sure its a profitable niche too that helps!

And own your own real estate by starting your own Wordpress self hosted blog, or a website.

    Great post!
