EZA really hates affiliate links

6 of my last 9 articles were declined with one of these two reasons given "your authors resource box contains broken links" or "Websites must be active and have content in order for you to link to them from your article".

The authors resource box has a top level domain that redirects to an affiliate program. The resource box for the declined articles is IDENTICAL to the resource boxes I've used in other articles that got approved just last week without any issues. They are the same links, linking to the same pages yet last week they were fine and this week they are no good.

I bet if I make a landing page for those sites the articles will get published easily but you are allowed to link to an affiliate program with a top level domain, at least you WERE allowed to.

Is anyone else having a harder time linking to an affiliate program even with a top level domain redirect which is fine according to their TOS?

They have a bunch of new trigger happy editors, and this has been happening a lot lately.

It sucks, but you will probably have to negotiate with their support to get them in.

    Good luck!

Great Drawing site in your sig by the way

When this happens to me, I make a small tweak in the article and resubmit it. Normally it will go to a editor that actually knows what THEIR RULES are and it will get approved.

Actually, they went through dozens of thousands of articles over the last few days and either declined articles or gave author warnings for broken links. It's on their blog I think.

For the guy that was asking what Twitter was good for...that's where I found this information.

Any idea what they are considering a "broken" link?

I'll have to check out their blog. Two of my articles had "broken links" (B.S.)

The other four (pointing to two different websites) were declined for linking to a site that didn't have content. - They link to affilliate sales pages via a top level domain redirect.

It's irritating because the exact same resource boxes and links worked just fine with the last batch of articles but now they're suddenly not good enough. WTF!

I don't think it has much to do with the "upgrade." It looks to me like they are making an attempt to take things to the next level, which is what needs to happen (with all directories) as far as I am concerned.

With change come mistakes. Lets just hope their new team members are intelligent enough to learn from each mistake. <crossing fingers>

Adam, well done. The drawings are great so why not do it full time for people who will pay you for it, ie offline. Sell your stuff on e-bay as well. Do you also paint?

If only it were that easy

I tried selling at arts and crafts fairs and just barely broke even. It usually cost $200 - $300 just to participate + hotel + gas. I sold stuff, but hardley made any money.

I tried selling my stuff on ebay and the results were not very good their either. That's why I made instructional DVDs. My DVDs actually sell better than any of my drawings or prints but it's still not enough to pay all the bills.

I've been working on SEOing my website and it now out performs what I used to do on ebay. I have not been doing much ebay lately.

I do take commissions if you know anybody who's looking

Yea usually when that happens all you have to do is re submit it. If you get a different editor - it should be approved. I don't see why they would have a problem with an affiliate redirect in the top directory of a website, it is allowed in the rules.

As to what the specific issue is for AdamV, please contact our member support team if you haven't already.

Two things related to some of the discussion in this thread:

      1) 11k members were notified on Monday to clean up their articles that included dead links. We determine a link to be dead after we've checked it dead 3 times over a 3 day period of time.

In 2009, we will no longer allow articles to include dead links as it's a trust violation with our users. For now, we're notifying members on a daily basis as new dead links are confirmed dead by our 3x3 routine. If you think we are wrong, you have the chance to report your links as valid within your Article Diagnostic Center and one of our humans will review your claim manually and if found to be true, we'll agree with you and remove your articles from the dead link watch list.

      2) While it's true that we have a lot of newbie editors on our team (added 8 new editors in the last 2 months), they also have tools that show them when an article is resubmitted with no changes. Ie: It's a flag if you resubmit with no changes trying to get another Editor to accept what another didn't accept.

You can expect we're continually training and re-training our editors and over time I expect our consistency to improve.

I have been having the same problem with affiliate links in articles. In the last week or so more and more of them are being approved then before so maybe the new moderators are seeing the error of their ways.

It is my understanding that top level domain redirects are okay but this may have changed recently.

Of course, you cannot put any affiliate links and also redirect links to the resource box. So you need landing pages.

This is a bit off topic but has anyone just noticed your EA CT's all showing 0?

I was kinda shocked but figured maybe it's just a temporary issue. Unless I missed something.

Their TOS allows affilliate redirects from top level domain names.

I personally tried to add cloaked affiliate links to my resource box and they were all rejected.

These people acutally READ your article and then check your links.

It is good in some sense.

They gave me a hard time recently over a link I posted to an internal page. They claimed it was an affiliate link. It got straightened out pretty quick but I had to change the link to my main page instead on the page for the order form.

I got one of those emails from EZA about an article I wrote over a year ago. They said to fix the dead link and resubmit it. So I deleted the article instead, because I don't do that niche any more, and had deleted my website about it. Hope that was OK.

EZA is getting more and more hard to break into Guess it is time for a switch

Fortunately I have never directly link to affiliate links from my resource box, not even by using a top-level domain redirect. I always link to either pure content sites or squeeze pages, but even then I get those "your author's resource box contains broken links" error messages. And the links are real, LIVE links! Go figure
