Hey,

Ok, small WSO rant...

You know when someone is preaching some "new" unknown traffic/marketing method, and they say:

Has nothing to do with:

- ClickBank
- Ebay
- Affiliate Marketing
- CraigsList

etc, etc, etc, etc

Why don't they just save space, save their time, and ours, and just tell us what it does have to do with.

I just read a WSO sales letter, which contained about 700 words on exactly WHAT IT DID NOT CONTAIN.

$12 later, 6 pages after...

It used www.thewebsite.com --> and I knew it already, because a previous WSO discussed it.

Now, I'm obviously not going to fuddle around for a refund at $12, the seller did provide what they said, but I could of saved an hour if they would of just said what it was, hell, I would of still bought the WSO (if I did not know the site) if it only has two paragraphs that said:

-----------------------------

The following is a method that produces a lot of targeted traffic using www.thewebsite.com. My product explains step by step on how to utilize this website to benefit your business, produce more traffic, and gather more income.

There is no required investment after your purchase, traffic will consistently flood your website 24 hours a day.

Buy for $12.

Here is a testi...

I don't know... is it just me, or could we use a little more information up front.

This is why you need to ask a question before you buy.

It is a marketing method, It arouses curiousity, and i think you'll find it works.

It does. The $12 is safely in the authors pocket whereas it wouldn't be if he/she spilled the beans.

My guess is that most of the people that buy will not know about that traffic source and be thrilled.

        Which would you rather buy?

"Get your site Indexed in hours using this powerful technique with a well known but Little Used Site"

        or

"How to put an advertisement on Craigslist and get your site indexed"

I'm not saying it's right. I've purchased things like that too and went DUh!!! after I read them. I've even sold this way and it works. Few refunds, but lots of interest.

Years ago Boardroom Reports used to advertise much this way and it worked like gangbusters. Now Bottom Line Secrets does the same:

Make $25,000 to $40,000 a year without ever leaving your house! Perfect for stay-at-home moms, retirees, students, anyone who wants to work from home. Page 174

Don't let yourself be shortchanged by Social Security. Steps to take now to make sure you get all the benefits you deserve! Page 115

How to take money out of your retirement account before the age of 59½--with no taxes or penalties. Page 117

The government is sitting on $60 billion in unclaimed assets. Does some of it belong to you? How to find out on page 1.

Bills you can arrange to pay late--without penalties or harming your credit! Page 19

State-of-the-art, brand-name electronics, appliances, cameras and much more for up to 80% off! But you must know the secret word on page 80.

Save up to 70% on prescription drugs! Pharmacist has no choice when you say this. See page 322.

Probably all common information but the sales pitch is all curiosity based.

  • Usually, if I come across a salespage that lists all the things it does not concern, I just leave. It usually means that the system is too simple to list any bullet points on the salespage - and generally, crap.

I agree that it can be a bother when you purchase something because it is a mystery, only to find it is something you already are aware of.

But there is something to it, psychologically. So many IM'ers are looking for "the next big thing", especially after fighting saturation in some of the markets, that the thought of something new, exciting, and mysterious can be very inviting.

If a big part of "the secret" is what site/service you are using, I can understand not revealing it in the wso. I prefer to be more upfront, but understand why this method is done.

Why don't they just save space, save their time, and ours, and just tell us what it does have to do with.
My experience in buying a few WSO's to "see what they are" - is that they weren't much at all. Usually the sales page of "what it isn't" contained more info that the reality of "what it is".

Guess what this post is about.

it's not about fried chicken, or about
    pangolins or
    crochet
    concrete
    quarks
    coffee or
    recycled paper.

But it's definitely about something which will be useful to you. Send me $37.00 and its yours...

    Hey,

I understand it is a marketing tactic....

What I don't understand is why we do it to each other.

but whatevs, i guess the WSO section is more of a marketplace then a community

      LOL...because we're MARKETERS!

      C'mon dude...you need stronger coffee :-)

P.S- Your $12 was spent learning that curiosity is a powerful selling tool. So powerful, they prized money out of your wallet without even telling you what you were buying...

...now go apply that knowlegde and recoup your investment :0)

Basically you just spent $12 learning another way to market a product that obviously works.

That is at least 1 thing you did get out of it.

Frankly, some do it because their methods are so simple that the slightest reference to it would reveal their so-called "secret" to everyone...or at least anyone with a tiny bit of common sense and detective ability.

Others use it because it can increase sales and they know it.

The Zeignarik effect is slightly at play here. (zeigarnik effect - Google Search)

That teasing of what it isn't acts as the uncompleted task in our minds. Some people will simply buy the product just to see if they already knew it or if their guesses were close.

It's like if you gave someone a riddle, they gave you an answer, and then you refused to tell them whether or not their answer was correct. Or like when a friend of yours tells you they have a "secret" about someone else....but then refuses to tell you what that "secret" is. Just knowing they know something that you don't will drive most people crazy.

Like everyone else said, it works very well, especially when someone has tried and failed at all the things listed. They assume they need to purchase to find out what other way there could be at making money online.
