8000 EXACT searches a month Domain. Should I buy it?

Hi warriors,

I need your wisdom and advice. I just found the .ORG extension of a keyword that gets about 8100 searches per month according to the Google KW tool.

This keyword has a bunch of PR4-PR7 on the front page of Google. The .COM and .NET of this keyword are parked domains so they are not even trying to compete.

Should I buy this domain? I know the exact keyword will carry some authority but I just don't know how long it will take to rank. I've had success before but only if the first page of Google has PR0-PR3. I've never gone up against PR4-PR7 websites.

Either way it probably has value even if I buy it and resell it right? or No?

I'd take a look at the sites that are currently ranking for the keyword, and see if you can spot signs of commercial success, i.e. product ads, adsense, affiliate links and so on.

If you can monetize the traffic the domain is likely to bring, then grab it.

Don't worry about the high page rank competition. Just target all the keywords that are related to the exact match phrase, as well as the exact match itself, and you'll get a kind of nebulous effect. Above all, if you deliver what the people searching for the phrase actually want better than the other sites, the rankings will almost take care of themselves as people voluntarily link to you and spread word of mouth.

If you don't think the traffic can be monetized though, even a high traffic domain will have limited value compared to the effort it would take to rank. You want to know you're going to get income as you build it up, have revenue proof to increase value, and be able to get a good price when you sell.

All it's going to cost you to test it is about 10 bucks and some hosting, which you may already have. Not much to lose besides a little time. If it's something you're interested in go for it.

Buy it and put a site on it and flesh it out some. You can always flip if you don't want to keep working it.

    Good luck,

Seems like a small investment to test it. I'd go for it and build backlinks and add unique content targeting those keywords. Don't have too much to lose trying

Hey I think you should give it a try, you don't risk almost anything just $10 and some time.

On the other hand don't worry about PR, I have sites on the first page of google with PR 0. The most important thing is keywords and back-links.

    Thanks,

I would totally go for it. For that many searches a month it's worth a shot. If you have some products that are relivent to that keyword, you will be able to make some good money once you get it there.

Yes this is correct. I have a bit of analysis paralysis! LOL

Thanks guys, you all are right, it'll only cost me about $8.99 to test the waters! If worse comes to worse I can always sell the domain or flip the site.

Should have bought it long time ago. Wonder if it's still available now for purchase?

My personal advice would be to you, if you think you can monetize the domain name, then it's probably worth giving it a shot, even if you can't, you could easily sell the domain for 2x what you paid for it, purely based on the search results.

Although; if you haven't ranked for a domain like this before, then it might not work out for you, but you'll be fine because you can easily sell the domain and still make some profit.

Depends on if you will DO something with it. If you just buy it, sit on it and then next year when it's up for renewal think to yourself "oh, yeah, shoulda done something with that" then the answer is no. :-)

If you will take action, then it's a minimal risk. Grab the domain and put something up there that you can monetize. To take it one step further, see what the search results for the term look like, just so you'll know who you are up against. Blast content toward the search term and related terms as suggested by @Kezz and @sbucciarel.

run a quick adwords campaign if you really want to test the waters. then you will know how much traffic it gets for sure.

also, as kezz said it is important to determine how commercial the traffic is and if you can monetize it. but you should be able to tell that just by looking at you competition and if there are already adwords adds in place, and what the average cost per click on the adds are.

do your research the go for it

Really depends what the keyword is.

Is it www.iwanttobuya1000dollarproduct.com? If so then, you better buy it.

If it's www.iwillneverbuyanythingontheinternet.com, I would say don't waste your time.

I know these examples are silly, but you get my point. It all depends if it's a buyer's keyword or not. Some searches no matter how big won't bring you much money.

If it has any chance to be a buyers keyword, go for it. You could of landed on a nice gold mine, or a $10 deficit. Like Dennis said, only one way to find out.

I'd say that if you have a plan to monetize it, and you think that you can turn traffic into sales, then $10 and a little time is not a waste of your time or your money. If you fail to monetize it, then you failed, but most likely, you will have also learned.
