Authority Site Themes

I want to create some authority sites with Wordpress and wanted
to ask if any warriors here know a good theme or are currently
using a good WP theme that can be used for authority sites.

I already run several authority sites but they don't run on WP. I am
using Wp more and more and would like to build my next authority
sites with it.

I am thinking about a clean theme where I can include pages with
drop-down menus.... I know Thesis is pretty good but maybe you
got other ideas.

Look at the niche you are going into and see what the authority sites in that niche look like.

For many years, I would build and develop authority sites and the first thing I learned was that there is a certain "flavor" that a niche will have and if you veer too far away from it the others in the niche view you as an "outsider".

I was in a niche a few years ago that used a lot of pinks and blues in their colors and I wanted to be different so I didn't. I didn't do very well at converting anything until I started using pinks and blues in my graphics.

Not saying this is true of every little area, but this is the reason you start to see so many "look a like" sites.

    Kind of like sub-cultures.

If you want to hang out with the "Dead Heads" you gotta wear a psychedelic tee shirt.

I think this is why so many people like using those themes that allow for a lot of customizing like Thesis and Flex.

Thanks Matt. I thing I will give the Thesis Theme a try. Like with everything
there will be a great learning curve with all the customizing you are able to
    do.

When you say an authority site do you mean an educational establishment site (edu)?

      No.

A site that is viewed as one of the sites in a niche as an "authority" on the subject, or niche.

A good example would be the IM blogging site ProBlogger with Darren Rowse.
When it comes to making money with blogs, or "Pro Blogging", this is considered the top of the line.

You can, and do quite often, have more than one authority site in a niche. There may be as many as 5 or 10 top sites in a niche that all have excellent and top of the line content.

When building an authority site, you definitely want to know what you are talking about or hire good writers for your content.

No, these sites are basically just really big affiliate sites. Instead of focusing on
only 1 keyword you cover 30, 40 or 70 keywords from that niche.

Then you can add videos and other stuff that makes you look like an authority.
The idea behind this is to get a lot of visitors and make more sales. One of my
authority site gets 800 - 950 uniques a day which is good but nothing compared
    to other authority sites.

It may be a good idea to buy a custom theme.

I would probably recommend StudioPress ® Premium WordPress Themes

These used to be called Revolution Themes...and are some of the best out there. Solid code, easy to manipulate (medium level techs)....and they look sharp.
