Hosting Others' Sites - How Much of a Pain is It?

I am thinking about offering hosting as an added benefit to a membership site. However I am wondering if this will be just one headache after another.

Has anyone done this?

Also, I was thinking that if it's too much of a pain, maybe I could hire someone to run the support for the hosting. Is this something that could be done for a low cost?

Thanks for any input.

Support is the only problem if you do this (as long as you already have a good host).

Your ideal user is someone who knows little or nothing about coding and servers and cpanel and will literaly just put their website up and then edit it using a CMS!

They do exist and there are lots of them but support can be a bitch if you get some techy guy taking hosting from you and asking you all sorts of complicated questions.

My husband and I have hosted numerous sites on our reseller hosting plan and it is much easier than one might think. We made sure to host our reseller account with a primary host with a 24 hour customer service department in case we ran into technical issues we couldn't handle and were also careful with the amount of bandwidth offered in the packages so our customers would not run out.

I once did the exact same thing and it ended up wrecking the membership site.

It is a massive pain, especially if many of the websites are for newbie IMers pitching how to make money schemes. They seemed to go hand in hand with viruses, insecure scripts, and all sorts of security problems.

At a minimum, make sure none of your own websites are on the same server.
