How your website looks to phone mobile users

Sure, you could surf the web on your mobile phone to take a peek at your website or your clients'. But what if you don't have internet on your phone yet?

I found a cool online app that shows you what a website looks like in a mobile phone.

Emulator | dotMobi

Feel free to share any other online mobile phone emulators.

Thanks,
Raynay

For visual emulation of your sites on a smart phone you can use mobalizer
    http://www.springbox.com/mobilizer/

    or IBB

theres a lot of actual device emulators you can download and install however i cant stress enough that you can't really bbeat testing on a real device!

What you will also find in a lot of instances is that many emulators or simulators do not properly trigger a websites device detection whether it be by screen size or user agent detection.

If you are looking for how well your site will perform on a certain devices you can also take a look at the W3C mobileOK checker which will give you a grade of how well your device will function on a mobile device more so on a smartphone.

The FREE Keynote Mite software is a little bit more stringent with its results and you can test how well your site will work on multiple handsets both smart and non smart devices.

You can also signup to be an Apple Developer and use Apples Iphone/Ipad simulator which is very accurate costs $99 to signup to be a developer and it only works on mac.

The best iphone simulator that i have come across for windows is the mobione studio also has a lot of great features cost $100

It really depends how serious you are about mobile. The ready.mobi is only an indication of how well your site will look on a non smartphone. However what is important to understand is that the validation of your site on this validator will indicate if your site will get picked up as a true mobile website by Google. Basically it shows you if your site validates to XHTML MP.

Most people who are developing mobile sites are developing sites for use on smartphones only and don't bother/care about this - its important to me that it validates but unlike most when I develop mobile sites I am starting to cater for both smartphone and non smartphone users. One thing to note I have not seen any particular increase in mobile site ranking in the SERPS because of the validation.

What I have seen in non smartphone google search is that Google applies a small green handset next to your listing, typically after you have also supplied a correctly formatted mobile XML site map. For the most part and to my own understanding google sees sites designed for smartphones just like any other site and rank them in the regular SERPS. Which leads me to wonder if there is any point to optimizing it and whether you just concentrate on optimizing your main site. That's for another discussion. I expect in the next two years i will only have to cater to smartphone users only as that is the way people are going with their mobile purchases.

I found it simple enough to just purchase an Itouch and use my current android phone but currently I am developing something where I need to get access to a much wider range of devices... Whilst there are some good emulators out there they don't give you a true 100% experience whilst very close I have found most emulators miss out features like being able to test video, properly emulating click to call, in some instances i haven't been able to see how thibgs render in landscape and portrait views. Or how some of the phones functions actually work like bookmarking and adding the site to say the devices homepage.

Currently i am working on a project that i need to thoroughly test what the output looks like on multiple devices both nonsmartphone and smart - and have recently come across a company that offers access to 600+ real devices Perfecto Mobile:
    www.perfectomobile.com

It's not particularly cheap but for me its worth every penny guess it depends what your are doing.

For most people the iphonetester.com site will probably be enough!
