since ebooks can be marked, is there any way to mark dvds to prevent (or at least hinder) piracy?

It's easy enough and to create an TV network style "ident" you don't need an online editing suite to do it.

Most video editing software will allow you to insert a logo into your clip/s and then make it partially transparent.

Position it in the corner of your "safe area" for whatever aspect ratio you are using and then render and save the file. Easy.

This thread on cdrom-guide.com is as good a guide as any. It's not difficult at all.

my apologies, I wasn`t specific in asking my question. I meant to hinder torrenting by digitally marking it so I know which copy was torrented when I find one. (like ebooks have purposeful typos to digitally mark them to each customer.) so at least I can slow it down when it does happen.

eBooks are tiny and easily customized on the fly.
Every dvd you send out would have to be custom made. A time consuming process. It would be cost prohibitive.

so at least I can slow it down when it does happen.
And how do you think you would be able to slow it down? Find the one guy who uploaded it and sue him? There would already be plenty of other copies out there.

Pro-made DVDs actually do this with some kind of tracking number. No idea how, though. I don't think you can in your burner at home.
