Your Personal Success Story: Post it Here!

From financial success to successes of many other natures, there's no doubt that our own personal 'success' story can be financial in nature, or it can be with regards to other things we've accomplished and/or relationships we've made and fostered.

Even if they don't have money figures tagged to them (I know....the first thing many always seem to want to know is "How much do you make a day/month/year".....)

Perhaps you overcame a disease (or even if you are still fighting), or if you were able to make a killer connection that helped you further yourself/career....

I know this forum is ripe with stories like this....and, for a Friday, I thought it would be cool to start hearing some of them....

Be as proud or modest as you'd like....I'm sure others would like to here these stories, as well!

I posted my story here so many times (this gets asked a lot) that maybe
I should just put a link in my sig.

      Reader's Digest version.

      Lost job December 31, 1999

Spent January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2002 trying to find offline work and
doing little odd jobs. The low point being one where I put labels on evidence
for court cases for $7 an hour at some factory at a graveyard shift.

Jan 1, 2003 to present - Started trying to make a living online. Made $28 my
first 5 months. Worked 14 hour days.

      2003 - 2005 - Earned between $15,000 and $20,000 per year. Not enough
to live on but at least I was getting somewhere. Continued my 14 hour days.

2006 - Had first big breakthrough and earned $45,000 plus.

2007 - Hit 6 figures for first time.

      2008 - 2009 - Continued to earn low 6 figures. 2009, I semi retired,
working only about 8 to 12 hours a month.

2010 - Came out of semi retirement because I got bored. On pace for
      another low 6 figure year.

People wonder why I don't break that barrier, why I don't do some big
      product launch or something.

Answer - Don't want to. I simply don't want to expand my business and
I don't want to work anymore than I am now. After 7 years of doing this,
it's not as exciting and challenging as it once was, plus there are things
I'd rather spend my time doing like working on my music.

With the amount of content I have on the Internet, I can essentially do
very little and still get between 10 and 20 opt ins daily...more than enough
to keep me at my current income level. If there was no attrition in my list,
it would go up eventually. But there is so it essentially stays the same.

What I'd like people to get out of this as inspiration is this.

When I first started, I was clueless. I had no idea what I was doing and
it showed. $28 in 5 months is nothing to be proud of. For that matter,
earning under $20,000 for so long is nothing to be proud of either. But
I kept at it and built a business that ended up paying off my mortgage
early (I was in danger of losing my home) and sent my daughter to
college without having to take out a loan.

Are there people more successful than me? Tons. But I did this all on my
own and on a budget that most people would envy. I spend less than
$200 a month on advertising for my business.

How many 6 figure earners can say that?

Almost all my traffic, with the exception of WSO costs, comes from free
sources...mostly articles. I've written thousands over the years I've been
doing this and it's paid off. Sure, it takes time, but it you're dead broke
or cheap like I am, it's a great way to get traffic to your site.

Anyway, that's my story. Hope it's an inspiration to somebody.

Steve, that was a fantastic post. You are the poster boy for article marketing. Everytime someone tells me that article marketing doesn't work, you're one of the names I always throw out. "Hey, go tell it to that guy!"

    Warriors,

I've also shared parts of my story in this forum over the years. I'm going to share something that I have not shared before. About 3 years ago I was enjoying the success that the Internet Marketing Lifestyle had brought to me, so much so that I had developed some bad habits. One of them was going out to eat all the time.

I'm a hair under 5 feet 8 inches tall and my doctor told me I should be around 155 to 168 for my type of frame and BMI. When I walked into his office 3 years ago I weighed 202 pounds. I wasn't obese but I was definitely chubby. But surprisingly, my cholestrol and triglycerides were still within normal range, so I basically ignored my doctor's advice to eat better and exercise.

Well, one day I was climbing up some stairs while visiting a friend's apartment. By the time I had gotten to the top I was really dizzy and breathing heavy. I thought I was just out of breath. By the time I got into my friend's apartment, I collapsed on the couch and fainted. When I came to my friend was on the phone dialing 9-1-1. I told him to knock it off (ladies, you know how macho we are, we won't go to the hospital unless we've been impaled by a large piece of metal or mauled by some wild animal).

But the dizziness persisted. My friend drove me to the emergency room because I was starting to feel pain in my arm and my chest. Keep in mind I'm in my mid-30s at this point so I had no real idea what the heck was happening to me. Long story short, the emergency room doctor and the cardiologist that came to check up on me assured me I was not having a heart attack, but that I did have a form of P.A.T. or "rapid heartbeat" in laymans terms. The rapid heartbeat kicked again when I did a stress test. I was thinking "I'd rather be at a marketing seminar....".

After that episode I began reading books about nutrition. I did not want to have to go through that again. I used to be a bodybuilder when I was in college, so I began reading my old books that I had put away. A client of mine from the dating niche had lost weight (at my urging, how ironic eh?) by following a book called THE ABS DIET. I had told him over the phone what had happened to me and he went to Amazon and had the book shipped to me (more proof that relationship list-building works!). I read the book and it totally changed the way I viewed eating, nutrition, and the 12 "power foods". I also began walking 4 to 6 miles a day, 5 days a week. After 6 months I weighed myself at 151 pounds and today I'm at a better weight, 162.

I feel better, I sleep better, my seratonin levels are more even-keeled so I'm not as moody, and everyone around me wanted to know how I did it. It was simple, but not easy. I took the same habits that I had as an IMer and applied them to losing weight and to eating better. Studies have already proven time and time again that diets don't work, which is why I permanently changed the way I viewed food and the way I eat. I still have my one cheat day a week where I eat whatever I want, but even then it's about portion control. The days of drinking a case of beer and 6 hamburgers are over, I'm never eating like that again. But a couple martinis and one In-And-Out Burger animal style....I can do that once in a great while.

Next year will mark my tenth year anniversary of not having a job and while having that kind of freedom is great, there's nothing more important in life than loved ones and your health. I'm never taking my family and health for granted again. I feel like I'm more successful because of this and feel that I have a greater chance of living a longer, active life so that I can annoy my family and friends a little bit longer.

Even science has shown that the body and mind are connected. I hope this story motivates some of you to make some more positive changes in your life, whether it's to quit smoking, eat better, tell someone you love them, or even cleaning up your home office!

    Peace,

I started with a free Geocities page many years ago.. it was all I could afford.

It didn't do too well (surprise surprise) and I moved onto other things like..

Affiliate programs, blogging and product creation.

Blogging made me a small amount of money (around $2,000 a month) and I invested a lot of what I made back into the business.

Things really changed when I made my first product, and have been doing that ever since.

And on top of that now I take on private clients, help their businesses out and am always fully booked.
