How to embed video (with no controls except pause)?

by Nick Brighton 9 replies
You know those videos where the only way you can pause it, is to click on the video itself?

How do you do that? Does it need to be a Flash video?

If so, how?

Thanks all!

The folks who I have seen do this (Ryan Deiss comes to mind) use a service called ezS3. Its a front end for Amazon S3 hosted video that creates the players and embed code for your s3 videos.

Its a monthly service rather than a fee for the player.

I also believe the JW player does this (although you will need to research that).

Here is the link for the JW Player:

JW Player: Flash Video Player | LongTail Video | Home of the JW Player

(Not an affiliate link - I have no financial connection with them whatsover.)

    Hope this helps.

I haven't done it, but flash players look pretty easy to modify - you
turn off the controls you don't want and change the graphics so the
controls you don't have don't appear.

Hi, there are a lot of programs out there to help you with that. I use 2 of them (each has a slightly different benefit). Both of them will do what you need (and more).

Here are 2 that I use:

    1. Easy Video Player
Installed on your own server this software comes bundled with Easy Site Creator. It is super cool AND fast. One thing though, you have to have an Amazon S3 account to take full advantage of it. You can see an example at MaxSpeaksOut(dot)Com of the auto start/no controls feature (and more).

    2. Instant Video Web Pages
I just bought this software this week. It is currently the second post down on JayJennings (dot) Com Blog. This does not require Amazon S3. The file format I'm using with it is .mov (QT) and since I create a lot of those, I haven't needed to explore it any further. But talk about features and ease of use. I created this web page at Sizly (dot) Com in like 5 minutes. It is amazing.

These might be overkill for what you need but they are both outstanding programs and if you're into "down and dirty" videos on any kind of scale, they will make your life a lot easier.

    Hope you find this helpful!

I know they are all about putting forms inside the video, and easily syncing with S3...but do they give you all the controls and playback options as well?

Yes they do - ALL the controls (or no controls) as well.

For pure embedding the post on EZS3 is accurate. I actually use that program more than any other since it deals with all video file types as well as .jpg and .mp3.

I did not put it in because it is a monthly subscription service.

Well Mike, if nobody has mentioned it lately, you rock! Thank you! =

Nick -- I use the Flowplayer control with Instant Video Web Pages and it allows you to hide the controls. The player is freely available but the learning curve on it just sucks -- mainly because there are almost too many options. So while anybody can go get the player and use it for free, my "biz model" is to make it easy for people to access all the coolness that's built into it.

    Hey Nick,

Sorry for the self-promotion, but I think I have exactly what you are looking for.

My VideoWebWizard 2.0 software comes with a "blank" player, which only shows the video and no controls. To pause/play, one can simply click the playing video.

    Thanks,
    Keith

Camtasia does this for you as well.

Sorry to bring back a very old post but this is exactly what I am looking for also... I am using camtasia and they have an option to "hide" or have no controls but here is the issue...

If I select that option, it will not let me re-direct the video.

Guess I'll take a look at ezs3 unless someone has camtasia tips on how to redirect a video with no controls.

Or, how about a delayed display below the video? Instead of re-directing I would also be interested in having an order button display towards the end of the video.

      suggestions?

      Thanks!
