Talking to a different crowd

I was at WordCamp Toronto (wordpress conference) a couple of weeks ago and met with tons of new people in the blogging and social media space.

It's funny how lingo in the IM space has no meaning on these people.

I did a presentation and I asked the crowd to raise their hands if they knew what "spun" articles were. Out of 200 people 4 raised their hands. To be honest I found it refreshing that most people don't even have this on their radar.

I need to think about this when I write copy, shoot videos and speak at events. You should too. Many people don't know what PLR, IM, PPC, spinners, etc. means so consider that when you communicate

    Wise words.

It's always best to study your target demographic in their "natural habitat".. follow along with their slang and learn how to connect with/like them

Forums are great for this. If I find a busy niche forum when I do my digging, I know the niche will be a real mover over time. This has never failed me.

I'm not saying every hot niche has a busy forum, but every single time I find a busy forum, I find gold.

Your niche will be comfortable in a forum of people who share a common interest, they can be observed and their tone/mood/attitude/psychology can be looked into in great detail.

When I started marketing online full-time a bit over 4 years
    ago I didn't know what a blog was. I didn't know anybody
who had a blog or what you were supposed to do with it.

I put up the most gawd-awful HTML pages for months before
somebody mentioned my selling approach was like a blog.

I'm real smart but mostly, like most people, only know the
specific vocabulary of things I'm highly involved in.

I was online 4 years profiting before I knew what SEO stood for. I went to a local course and the trainer said SEO and I asked what that stood for

Talking to your market in there language is powerful. Most people dont know what these works mean.

I think most people in Internet Marketing dont understand what "Internet Marketing " really is. I consider it as a marketing method for your business, or affiliated business. Many see it as making money online

    Words are powerful

    I agree with the OP.

The funny thing is that money does not ask you whether you know the meaning of those terms before it comes to you.

However, you have to know them and tell your audience about them if you are going to talk about IM in a seminar, conference, etc. It is very important.
