Squidoo and keyword targeting

I hear Squidoo is rather different than normal blogs and webpages when it comes to targeting keywords.

Can anyone give me pointers on how to properly target keywords with a lens?

    Hey Mat,
Squidoo really isn't all that different. You can go a couple ways. You can find long tail keywords that don't have a ton of traffic, but don't have hardly any competition either, or you can go with a bigger keyword with a little more competition.

I like to do both. Find some bigger keywords and long tails and use them all in your copy as well as in your tags.

I try to keep competition below 30k for Squidoo, but have done well with more competition. IT also depends on the top sites that come up for your keyword search. If they are super competitive ~ high pr, lots of backlinks ~ you're going to find it hard to overtake them.

No matter what you do, some lenses will flop and some will take off. Just get started, keep building and trying.

Good Luck, and hope that helps.

    Jackie

Use the keywords in your lens title, URL, intro title and text, titles and subtitles of other modules, tags if you like (not as important as they used to be, but you may as well put some in), image file names, anywhere in the content. Basic SEO really.

You can also get some extra oomph by joining squidoo Groups which are relevant to your lens.

Thanks, where abouts do you enter the keywords on your lens?

I have about 3-4 top keywords with great search amount and low competition and it's easily monetized but i heard google doesn't look at the module titles for keywords with squidoo.

Do you still fill modules with the keywords amongst content? Or do you leave it for the tags that you entered when you made the lens?

Google does look in module titles for keywords, and everywhere else on your lens too. This includes the URL, titles, content, links and tags.

Here's a blog post on how to focus your lens. I hope it helps.

I agree with the above. In order to do well you should build one lens for every keyword you are targeting.

Matt, the best success I have had is to build my lenses around the keywords used for my best articles. I will usually release 20-30 ezine articles and choose my top articles for Squidoo lenses. It is a good way to test out how good a specific keyword is.
