Membership site help needed... Yes, another one!

I'm working on an exam prep site for a small, targeted niche.

I've scoured this forum and the web for products that I need but I'm overwhelmed and uncertain which way to go. HELP!

The market:
Roughly 1,000 monthly customers max.

The services & products:
10 unique study guides with associated forum -- Buy the guide, get access to forum... or vice versa.

Videos to supplement each guide - Optional purchase.

The forum must support images - inline or attached.

This market has a high degree of sharing and resale of study material, mostly because my customers tend to be cash-strapped interns and it's a tight community with a culture of sharing. So...

Even though my pricing will be very competitive relative to the competition, copy protection is paramount. I'm not a fan of password-protected pdf's, drumlin, or similar methods. Also, limiting access to a specific machine or url won't work since many need access from home, office, and maybe, mobile.

Since the typical customer will only need the material for a month or two, I would like to use subscriptions where lock-out is automatic at the end of each monthly period and renewal must be acted upon rather than automatic.

I'm thinking that the best approach would be to use a forum as the primary deliver method for the study guides by embedding them in sticky posts. Doing so would also require disabling screen capture, printing and downloading.

Access to videos would also be by monthly subscription but not sure how to do that. Perhaps a sub-forum and embed as well, but if I do that, there must be a way to view full screen.

It's important for each member to have a single login that will allow access to all of their active subscriptions/modules.

Of course, I want all the usual automatic membership handling, paypal support, etc. I would also like the ability to use coupons but that's not critical.

I have absolutely no need for affiliate management/capabilities.

It looks like vBulletin might do what I want/need, but I'd like to be sure before I purchase. I really like their interface & features.

I'm open to all ideas. Maybe the forum delivery approach isn't the best.

Thanks for your assistance.

What's difficult is the copy protection piece. Someone who is motivated can copy what you're displaying to them.

One approach is to look at what the online magazines are using. Many are turning to flash based solutions.

      Thanks.

I know where there's a will, there's a way. I'm hoping that my product will be at a price point where too much effort just won't be worth it. I just want to avoid copy sharing.

Honestly, I have no desire to learn any programming. If there's a flash for dummies app, I'd love to know.

One thought I had for the ebook/pdf was the give it a 30 day expiration. I thought I ran across something like that once. I wonder how effective it would be.

I'd really love a solution that will allow offline viewing, but if that's not possible, so be it.

Adobe Captivate: Screen Capturing Software, Video Screen Capture Software| Adobe Captivate 4 Pricey, but worth it if you're doing a lot of flash-based stuff (especially for study guides or courses).

It's not just screen capture - quizzes, scenario-based training, software simulations, presentations, screencasts, etc. I'd recommend downloading the demo and having a look. I recently upgraded from Captivate 3 and the new CS4 version is awesome! Miles ahead of Camtasia.

Downloadable PDFs with flash content embedded - Convenient delivery and can be password protected like any normal PDF. Camtasia, Flash and Captivate content can all be embedded or streamed from a website. See these threads for more info:

I don't think you can have all that protection... For example, I don't know how it's possible to disable screen capture.

But I always use aMember with my membership sites. It locks directories (you can protect the lessons, videos and forums) and can be easily integrated with dozens of payment processors.

If you buy aMember (I think it costs something close to $200) you don't need to spend any additional money on forum platforms. Just go to your CPanel/Fantastic and install a free forum platform (there are many good ones).

I know prscrn can be disabled but you're right, there's probably no way to disable the multitude of capture apps.

Thanks, I'll take a closer look at aMember in tandem with a free forum like SimpleMachines.
