Do marketers rely on article marketing to drive traffic directly to their offer or do they rely on articles for backlinks to their offer page?

  • In my case both, a bad article won't get you any traffic but it will give you a back-link, so try to write good article that folks may find useful and you will get traffic as well as linkage.

  • I use article marketing both for traffic and link building.

  • I write good quality articles because my first goal is targeted traffic - the backlinks are just a bonus.

The way I see it I could submit a poor quality article and get one backlink (if it even gets accepted)

    Or

I could write a high quality article and get a backlink from the directory - and targeted visitors via the bio box link - and the article is more likely to be picked up by other publishers so i get more backlinks and more targeted traffic.

    • Mrs S told the story beautifully.

I have also always written for traffic first, backlinks second.

In my mind, the article that generates traffic, generates traffic now and later. If I am good at what I do, then I will be able to convert my traffic to sales - now and later.

The backlinks and the subsequent search engine positioning comes later.

If you rely on your articles only for backlinks and search engine rankings, what will happen to your website if you never achieve the search engine rankings? If your site is like most, it will die, due to lack of financial return.

However, if you target NOW traffic and NOW sales, your article could pay for itself NOW certainly, and add to your bottom line LATER maybe.
  • Good articles do both. Why take 2 steps when you can take just 1?
  • You can use em for both mate...

I'll throw in a tip... write a good PR, and ping it... you might just get yourself a pagerank link as well
  • I write both for Backlinks as well as for traffic. A well written artcile give you both.
  • I think that quality is the first thing, as then you just get both for the same input.
  • For me, I rely on articles for backlinks to my sites mainly. As the guidelins of most article directory sites, it is not allowed to put any Affiliate links into your articles.
So, it is next to impossible for us to drive traffic directly to the offers.

    • i write for both

      backlink
      readers
    • you can always redirect from your website... EZA allows you to redirect to a different domain if your article is linking to your home page..

What I do is first rotate a few offers just to find out what converts...if I make good profit Ill leave it as is....if not Ill create a landing page/review page.
    • The way I look at it, is that a good article will send you traffic for years, so it should be going to your own site were you can control the offer. Many affiliate offers are not even around after a couple of years.

      All the best,
      David
  • If you can have both then why not?
  • Banned
It really depends on what you want do it with it. But of course you can have both!
  • Hi there,

I agree with alot of the comments. It is almost like hitting 2 birds with 1 stone here.

To become affective with articles, concentrate on keywords for your niche.

I normally use 1-3 keywords per 100 words in my articles. Use wordtracker or google keywordtool to understand what words get used most often and apply that.

Once you master this, you will have backlinks and targeted traffic for years to come.

Normally, with article marketing, things only pick up when you have written 50-100 articles. But this is just my opinion, it can very from Marketer to Marketer

    Regards,
  • As you can see many opinions here, it really depends on one's strategy to article marketing.

Usually when I buy a new domain, I write articles in huge quantity and it doesn't matter to me whether they are of good quality or bad, since I specifically look for the number of back links.

When I get satisfactory position in majority of the search engines, I start writing ONLY Quality Articles for good long term results.

It varies from person to person. You should test and try your own way.
  • Traffic but the backlinking does not hurt.
  • Mostly I do it for backlinks. There are only so many people who will click on a link to information on a stainless steel lug bolt (example niche).
