How to monitize my website?

I have an article website that is getting about 10,000 + views per month. I have tried different ads such as adsense, clickbank products, etc. All have had dismal results to say the least. I was hoping someone here can shed some light as to what I'm doing wrong as far as ad placement, ad programs to use etc. I recently took the adsense ads off the home page and replaced it with an AWeber banner and an affiliate product in the side bar just to see if that would make a difference. The link to the website ezgoarticles.com is in my signature below if anyone cares to have a look and give me their best advice. I would appreciate it.

Your adsense is looking to much like an ad... In the articles I would align it to left and doubled it. And added another one on the bottom of each article. Try to fit it to page more. So it would be natural to your visitors to move from article to the add. They need to read it and then click. They usually don't click it by mistake cause it is on the top of the page.

BTW Like for me adsense on sidebar never worked. It can be a good place for some affiliate products with eye catching banners.

I have good success with adsense by placing a 336x280 text only ad at the top of each post (not wrapped) and a 160x600 ad in the top spot of the sidebar. You want to utilize the "above the fold" real estate and this is the best way to do it. It's also important you blend the background and border in with your websites background color.

I'm still not decided on whether blending the link and title color in with the websites theme , or making them standard blue is best. Many say that the blue links have a high CTR, but I'm still testing.

    Hope this helps

I would tend to agree your google ad's look to much like ad's. Maybe make them a tad bit smaller and inbed them into your article or right under the title line. Also change the font and color to match that of your article. This way you will get more natural traffic clicking on the ad's.

    Just my 2 Cents.

You are haunted by the common problem of article directory owners.

10,000 page views is not the number we need to hear to understand your predicament.

The number we need to hear is How many Unique Visitors per month.

Once this number is brought forward, we are a bit wiser and closer to the truth.

You will also want to go into your AW Stats and look at Pages-URL and click through to Full List. Once inside this window, you will want to filter the results, by adding * Article/ * to the Filter: command.

This will lead to an understanding of how many of your site's visitors are Consumers, rather than article marketers.

The next number you want to look at from these results is to see which articles in your directory are getting at least 10 page views a month.

What you are going to find is that there are probably only 50 articles getting traffic on your site. You need to match your Public-Side advertising to the traffic that you are naturally getting as is.

All "business-related" advertising needs to be stuffed into the backside of your website where article marketers will see it.

With article directories, you have some consumer traffic on the front end of the site, and most of your real traffic is article marketers, who are only on your website long enough to Advertise Their Business, before rushing to the next article directory.

It is a challenge getting the attention of the Article Marketer, but if you can, you will need to monetize that traffic with additional promotional services. You will find in most cases that the article marketer accounts for 80% to 90% of your global traffic.

The smaller set of your traffic (consumers) is actually easier to sell to, but you must be certain to show them only what THEY want, and you will get a handle on that by looking at your stats to see which topics seem to occur frequently in the articles that are getting real traffic now.

p.s. I hate mentioning things that are not yet available, but I am in the process of developing tools to help you do what I have described. So pay attention to my profile for future announcements.

Just a suggestion but have you tried free CPA offers? I'd imagine people would more willingly sign up for something free than having to pay for it. And some CPA offers can pay quite a bit and they're useful as well. You just got to pick the right one. Something reliable and honest as well as related to your content.

I must agree with previous replies, the ads on top of the page are bit too much "in your face" so it might put some people off and they leave the page or they will scroll right down past the ads to get to the article. I would put them on the right or left top corner of the article and another ad block at the bottom of the article. Anyway, that is what we have done in our article directory and although we still experimenting with different placements and colours this one seems to work the best so far.
