Domain Purchase Problem

Hi Folks,

A client of mine recently attempted to buy a domain from Sedo.co.uk and had a devil of a job. They made an offer of £60 and then nothing happened, except they got their money back.

I have since found out that buying a domain through sedo can be quite a complex/painful experience for both seller and buyer.

I have done a quick who.is search and got the address of the owner of the domain. What I'd like to know, is it cool to use this info to contact them directly and ask them exactly what price they want for the domain?

I just want a figure out of them so my client can just buy it as quickly as possible.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

There is nothing at all wrong with contacting the owner directly. The benefit of using Sedo as a middle-man is to protect both the buyer and the seller through their escrow service. You take on the extra risk by dealing directly with a buyer or seller you don't know.

My suggestion is to contact the owner directly, and if you agree on a price, go to Escrow.com to handle the transaction. You'll both be protected and the process is much less complicated and much cheaper.

Really appreciate the fast response. Thanks for the tip on escrow.com as well. Thats just the kind of thing I needed.

Glad it helped... be sure to choose the "domain" option at escrow.
