The SLICK thing....it's not a video, it is actually a clickbank link. Fooled me even to click. PURE GENIUS.
Instead of having videos on your site, put thumbs on it and lead via hoplink to original video on vendor page. It's obvious but i am baffled never having thought about this.

If placed right, these thumb-vids can actually bring a good CTR. That's why PPC companies are disapproving these kind of ads.

I've used this method in all kinds of places that don't support
video embeds. Works awesome. Even works in forum sig-lines
but many sites will change their rules if you do it too big. Not
bl@ch H@t - just kind of in-your-face. Be restrained and you
can get away with it. A lot of forums allow linked banners in
    the sig line.

They do, i was simply too "scared" mentioning this, but i know that some people use that method for ads clicks. Needless to say its extremely bl@ckhat.

Ahh, good point. Sorry, my 2nd cup of coffee hasn't kicked in yet, so I'm still in "Rainman" mode for a few more minutes.

Do you worry that it will piss off a lot of your site visitors though? You know, they expect a video to start playing and instead a new browser window or tab opens unexpectedly. Just playing devil's advocate. I've not ever tested this, so I might be all wet here.

That is really slick. I'm definitely going to have to try this out. I can think of a few CB sales pages with prominent videos where this could work very well.

Might be interesting to try with stuff that doesn't already have videos, like Amazon products. Using the image link to go to a page where you have the product listing and a video embedded from Youtube or something like that.

      Seems like so many possibilities...

This seems so simple but I don't think I've ever seen anyone on here mention it before.

Definitely a solid little trick - I'm going to test it out over the weekend.

That's been going on forever. Just do a search for "blind thumbs" and you can get an idea of where it started umpteen years ago.

It's great if you consider yourself a middleman and not a "sales person" and are just trying to direct traffic to the sales page and aren't all that worried about conversion ratios.

Often times, you can actually find the vendors video on youtube and just embed it right on your page. That works too.

Yes, but the whole point here is to get someone to click your afflink and cookie them, i am aware that you can also simply embed a video on your site.
Its a given that such a "fake" video would give you way more clicks. By the way i strongly suggest really to deliver what you promise....so even if it's a "fake" video thumb you better have that video playing on the destination site - otherwise it might really **** off site visitors

Yes, but they're disapproving the practice because it's deceptive and doesn't deliver the quality of clicks the advertisers are looking for, not because they have a high CTR. If the tactic was delivering the quality advertisers want they'd wouldn't disapprove it.

Exactly right, you'd better deliver the video or people will be ticked. You may not know they're ticked, but they'll probably leave your site, never to return.

By the way, I've been tricked by that trick. I left the site. I was more put off about being deceived than I was interested in seeing the video. I wasn't really ticked, I felt more like, "Here we go again." That's the risk.
