$150 bucks more and then I'm broke...

I've been around for some time now, trying this, that and a bit of everything around. Made some money, then wasted it... then made a bit more, wasted it again...

Oh yes. And then making some more bucks to go... until today. Almost broke, $9,000 in debt, returning to my dayjob in order to pay bills.

Question is... If you were in this situation... How would you spend your last $150 bucks? What would you do if you had to start from zero? What business model for fast return?

Thanks...

It depends what you assets are - do you have a list? websites? traffic?

I'm sure for $150 you could get a useful script created that would do something that warriors would happily buy to help their business..

      I got a hosting account and a few domains including marketing-master-course.com, profitlore.com, proudgolf.com, soccertimeshop.com

Nothing on those domains... yet. I have access, form past purchases (time ago) to googlecashdetective (never atually used it, bought access when I started earning money), Keyword elite... And have rights to an autoresponder script (no monthly fees to pay).

The thing is... I'm not motivated, not focused... and right now, with my new job I could put perhaps two hours per day on the internet.

Oh. I do have a working site in spanish Language at Trastorno Bipolar Al Descubierto and make maybe one or two sales per month (total of $50 bucks)... Its just in a niche with not many buyers...

Any advice? Any business I can focus on with $150, two hours per day and that could help me pay my bills?

      Thanks...

Given your situation I agree with Lee McKenna, save your $150 rather than spending it on your business. If you've lost your focus and motivation it's likely that it would be wasted.

If you return to your job you'll be under less pressure to get results as you'll have a secure income. That may allow you to regain some of your motivation and start to work on your Spanish language site.

If you haven't already done so I'd also suggest taking a look at a couple of threads started by John Schwartz (Zeus66) that could allow you to keep marketing with just a couple of hours a day but which wouldn't cost you anything. They're not long-term solutions but they could put some cash in your pocket and help to recoup some of the money you've spent.

The first one is about setting up a blogging empire using Blogger and you can read it here. The second thread has videos showing how to use those blogs with Amazon to monetise them quickly and easily. That thread is here.

I agree with Nigel. I just finished with Zeus' first thread and it is absolutely perfect for your situation right now.

It's free; it's easy; and I know you MUST have a lot of PLR stuff just collecting dust on your hard drive right now (just like the majority of us!)

Zeus' idea is so simple I don't know why I didn't think of it myself!

At any rate, take a step back, get your thoughts together, and breathe.

Everything will work out fine, you'll see!

I agree - you are frustrated and unmotivated...and you're scared about the future.

I wouldn't spend the $150 now on IM stuff. You have domains/sites that you haven't fully developed and promoted so you can let them age for a while.

Get a new job started, get some financial stability to pay the monthly bills - and then come back and work on what you have before starting more projects. While you are away you can learn more, think up plans of action, etc - without spending a dime.

If your heart isn't in it - you can't do it well.

Use $120 towards paying down the debt. Use $30 for a domain and hosting and do some bum marketing to get traffic to it.

Im afraid with 150 bucks you cant do much. But what I'd do is get a dayjob and learn everything about PPC + LEAD GENERATION. The finance market pays very well, thats all I have to say.

I would take the 150 bucks save it and keep saving until I have enough money to get into a coaching program. It is there where you will learn to let money chase you and not to chase money. I see way too many people on the forum try the do it yourself approach to IM without learning the basics. You have to learn the basics and realize that it doesn't happen overnight.

Well one thing you should not do is spend your last $150 on nor busienss ventures. Use it for bills or food shopping.

There are lots of ways to make money online for free. Try article markting and sell clickbank products direct linking? Thats a free way to make some extra cash.

Use go articles as they allow you to put clickbank affiliate links right in your articles.

That $150 can get you 20 .org domains at $7.49 from Name.com if you did amazon niche marketing and you chose the right keywords, out of that 20 I think you could get 15 winning domains. Provided you did the work, this will pay off. So a search for one of the popular amazon threads.

I don't the name right off the top of my head but someone around here creates ebooks for $150 with extensive research into the book. Use that to have tle book built, then set yourself up with a couple of forums and start advertising it for sell. After you get some money from it build up a website get it through clickbank and start recruiting affiliates for it.

Take a break from your online efforts so that you can focus on returning to the work force, and then, once you've had a little time to adjust, carefully re-examine your online efforts. Pick the one or two things that worked for you, and focus entirely on that for your two hours per day. It will take some time, but you can build on your successes, and leave the things that didn't work behind.

The most important thing is to focus on what works for you online, and keep fine tuning that until you get it.

The fact is, you do NOT need a lot of money to get started. That is the whole magic of the Internet. Aside from a cheap website host and a domain name ($15 for the first month, and maybe $5/month after that), you don't need to spend money.

It's sad that so many people are spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on education. Sure, it helps to have a little insight/direction, but it shouldn't be so expensive just to get started. I guarantee that the vast majority of top IMers didn't spend a fortune to get started... spending money is an alternative to working hard.

You want free advice? Download a copy of my book Three Steps To Online Success (three-steps.com). I know this probably sounds like just another pitch, but the book is free... no gimmicks, no upsells, just pure value (seriously). It shows EXACTLY what I have been doing for the past 12 years to make millions online. It requires work... YES, real work. But you do NOT need to spend money to get started, and can create your own unique business.

I sincerely hope this helps you and anyone else that is tired of paying a fortune to learn the proven fundamentals of online success.

EDIT: I decided to take this post and turn it into an article on my blog. This topic is something that really bugs me. I hate how many people are being taken advantage of with expensive how-to systems that rarely pan out. That's what the money-back guarantee is for, but sadly most people blame themselves instead of using it.

With $150, I would probably go to some garage sales purchasing things I KNOW would resell for higher on eBay. I would grab probably $275 worth of quality things, haggle them down to $150. You could probably flip these things and make anywhere between $275 to $1000 (yes, I have consistently done this before) and right now, it's free to list things on eBay in auction format. If it doesn't sell, no biggie, just relist.

Now find coupons, either from the newspaper, magazines, inside of product boxes, in the aisle at the grocery store. Group them up into small groups, and sell them while hoping to pay enough for fees and the cost of postage. PAYPAL MICROFEEs. You want to start selling in high volume, even if you aren't making much money.

Keep doing this until you've made about 1000 or more sales. Can be done in 15-30 days.

Sign up for Clickbank, find an eBay or other simple MMO Product. (I used SaleHoo for a while) and buy a domain name so that you can redirect to your hoplink.

Now use your past customers information from PayPal and copy and paste e-mails using their information - EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO DO IT ONE BY ONE. You can export all of this info from PayPal into a spreadsheet.

      "Hello [Name on PayPal Acct],

You purchased something from eBay from me not too long, and I just wanted to get in contact with you and THANK YOU again for your business. The reason I like eBay so much is that it lets me contact my past customers to let them know of great deals that anybody from eBay can buy or use to resell for profit, and make some money themselves.

I've greatly increased my supply of products that I'm getting cheaper than before, such as .mp3 player, video games, household stuff, you name it. Here's the link [Insert link to your domain that is redirected to your hoplink, I used Salehoo for this method]

      Thanks!
      [Your eBay Name]"

I have used and still use this method, and it works. Not the biggest conversion rate in the world, but out of 1000 people, I don't doubt you will make a couple sales.

Buy a flip camera / zi8 camera for $120 (or so) on ebay with shipping

Send out 40 direct mail letters to local business owners in various high profit industries (dentists, eye doctors, plumbers, realtors) [.50c x 40 = $20)

Offer to do an initial free online marketing promotion for their business and then upload a video of them promoting their business to youtube.

Do some social bookmarking and article linking to that video for ranking on page 1 of google for a low competition keyword that relates to their business.

Return to said business owner(s) with results and close a monthly marketing agreement with them from that point forward. ($497+ per month for monthly video promotion of various products and services they offer with lead capture as an added benefit, if possible, setup an Aweber capture form to collect leads on their behalf as a double whammy for automated lead generation follow-up)

Rinse, Repeat, Scale, and Outsource =)

Wait, so you are recommending someone that DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE (and has lost money trying) start doing IM for another business? And... you think they will be successful at that?

I would NEVER hire someone that didn't have a proven track record of success. This notion that making money is quick and easy and requires no experience is truly mind boggling. There goes his last $150 .

    jlgbuss-
I know what kind of answer you're looking for, but, unfortunately, you're not going to get it from me.

You say you made money but 'wasted' it - do you mean you spent it on advertising/ppc/ppv etc.? Or you just blew it away on things that have little or no use to you now?

I don't know your situation or your background, so I can only say what I would do if I were in your shoes.

Considering the fact that you have started this thread to seek advice (and about where to invest your last $150), I'm going to assume that bum marketing is NOT something that you are good at, are unsure about and/or you just don't want to do it.

That being said, if $150 is ALL I had left, I certainly wouldn't spend it online - especially since you are burnt out and have no motivation.

Instead, I would use that money for fuel to get back and forth to work (to/from a traditional, local job) and for food etc. Then, during the 2 hours/day that you/I have available to work online, either spend that time flipping your sites, building up/monetizing your sites and/or learning everything I could about whatever IM method that I was going to focus on.

Personally, if I was working a regular, non-IM job, I wouldn't bother with bum marketing just because I know that my time would be better spent on better marketing methods - since I would have a consistent income coming in.

As badboy_Nick said, spend a little bit of the money that you're getting (or will be getting) from your 9-5 job and pursue PPC/CPA,CPL (start by testing very small campaigns - little by little).

If you lost your money by way of PPC/media buys etc., your money might be better invested in a coaching program first - as Deek3870 suggested.

Just take your time, don't spend a lot of money (start off really small) until you get back in to the groove of things.

Look at how/why you lost your money (or weren't able to manage your finances properly - i.e. what got you here in the first place), and try to figure out how you can correct it and/or how/where you can learn what you did wrong and how to avoid it in the future.

Oh, and once you decide on something (which marketing method you want to pursue), focus on that one thing - don't jump around from one thing to the next until you have mastered it.

    Good luck and take care,
    -M

This might seem pretty off the wall but since you asked...

I'd go to eBay and do a search for 'replica Confederate Currency.' Then I'd buy some of it in the popular denominations. When I received it I'd take it to a good copy place and duplicate a bunch of it. Now you have what is known as inventory in a popular eBay niche.

Offer it for sale in sets with denominations of One, five, ten, twenty, fifty & one hundred. Undercut everyone out there and dominate the niche. Stay focused and keep doing it. You'll earn some money but more importantly you'll gain confidence from having some success. From there, the sky's the limit. Good luck!

I personally think you should spend about $30 on books that teach about MINDSET when it comes to money.

....And take a break from the internet altogether for a couple of months while you work a regular day job. Use the other $120 on living costs.

Look, you've been at this for nearly SIX YEARS and you're not making money.

I would say this is more of a problem with your MIND, ATTITUDE and BLELIEFS about money.

Seriousy... take a break and focus on YOURSELF a bit more.

I would imagine you've tried heaps of different methods over the years without really focusing on any one method to see it through to success... so DON'T try another random method that someone is suggesting here. Why will it be any different until you've worked on YOURSELF?

Please... take a break, clear your head and focus on PRINCIPLES.

In your case, I'd suggest giving up trying to sell Internet marketing and make-money products. Leave that market to the big cheeses with their giant lists and joint ventures. Too much work for too little return.

And, I'm not so sure the suggestions here to promote Amazon products is such a great idea anymore either. I had about 50 sites promoting Amazon products until a month ago when Amazon halted all associates in the state of Colorado due to new tax laws. No reason for me to promote Amazon anymore and if you're in the states, yours is probably next on the chopping block.

I think you should use $20 of the $150 to buy a book called "To Build the Life You Want, Create the Work You Love" by Marsha Sinetar. Spend another $50 and go to a nice restaurant, have a beer, and read the entire book from cover to cover. Use the rest of the money to make your next move.

Whether you're after $150 or $150,000 you will find value in being excited about what you're doing. If you don't have that anymore, you need to find that first.

In all honesty, Internet marketing is something I myself want to do, but a week ago I took up article writing on a freelance basis. The only place I advertised is here at the Warrior forum, and in barely a week I've made about $450.

I highly recommend it. It's something you have a lot of control over if you do decide to do it. You could just do it for a few weeks and voila, you then have more like $1500 rather than $150. Then you'll really have something to get started with.

I'd put that $150 towards my debt,
    because obviously spending money
    isn't the problem.

When the ships are burnt, that's
when the real fight in you will show
    up - or not.

You should focus less on a fast
return and more on finding a model
that is going to grow over time.

Too many people enter this world
thinking they're going to get rich
    without considering what kind of
value they have to offer in order to
    earn it.

Please take this as loving advice.

You don't need to spend your money -
that's not going to resolve your
    fundamental problem.

    X

I'd pay bills with the $150. I don't think money is going to help you get what you haven't been able to get so far. It seems like you're still looking for that perfect get rich quick scheme instead of focusing on building a sustainable business.

Scaring up some cash in a pinch is a short-term business plan and often doesn't even work. Have you built any sites that are worth flipping? You could get some quick cash if you have, but I would work on a long term business plan.

You said that you are not motivated and not focused. I understand that, especially with a new day job. Focus on your day job and think and learn some more about IM, but all things considered, I would focus on that day job.

Hello! I see that you've joined in 2004. There have been so many threads that could have launched your career since then. The reason for your lack of success is right in your post. You made money and wasted it, did a little bit of this and that. You should have simply repeated the things that made you money consistently and persistently. Most people fail right before they succeed. At this point, I would keep the money for emergencies and look to getting a job right away. Use every available penny to pay down your debt. Good luck. I'm sorry that IM did not work out for you.

Oh yes. And then making some more bucks to go... until today. Almost broke, $9,000 in debt, returning to my dayjob in order to pay bills.

Question is... If you were in this situation... How would you spend your last $150 bucks? What would you do if you had to start from zero? What business model for fast return?

    Thanks...

Well... I've made money before (nothing too big). And one of my sites is up and running and making an incredible and fascinating :p ... 50 bucks per month (its in Spanish Language).

I know this can work for me... And I'm not going to give up. I'll find motivation, focus and whatever.. under any rock out there if necessary. See... after all I've realized and a bit of a freak. I'll start all over... This is what I'll do:

      1. Get one of my non im niche domains.

      2. Set up a simple blog.

      3. Look deep into my hard drive for some PLR content. Post it.

      4. Link to a couple o CLickbank products...

      5. Create a Squeeze Page with a short report as a gift to new suscribers and set four - five follow up emails directing to articles in my blog.

      6. Create a final autoresponder message promoting a clickbank product... delivered day 5 or 6.

      7. Post a few comments on blogs a forums related to that niche once a week.

      8. Use Yahoo answers to answer related questions and post my link.

      9. Take care of my 50 bucks per month site... building an exit pop up, posting some more to the associated blog...

      10. Pray and see if something works.

      What do you think?

By the way... Thanks to all from the bottom of my freaky heart.

Looking over your "plan" on what you want to do next, I see a few errors.

You have A LOT of creation methods in your list; create blog, create squeeze page. create auto responder message, creating exit pop ups.

And I only see 2 promotion tactics. However, if done right they might do you some good, but you mentioned only doing them a couple of times a week. Promotion should be 80% of the work you do for your business.

You could create this fantastic website, but without the proper promotion methods no one is going to see it.

And I don't even see you mentioning the research part of your plan. This is very crucial to your success. You could have a great product to promote, but if you do not have the right keywords to promote it, then again, no one is going to find your website, and buy this product.

Someone earlier mentioned doing article writing with domain forwarding. This is actually a pretty good tactic to START with. It is easy to do, all you need to do is create a list of low comp, with decent searches and write articles on them all pointing towards your domain that forwards to the sales page.

Now, when I say a list of keywords, I am talking about 150 keywords, and you would right 1 articles for each keyword, and submit it to EZA, plus at least the top 5 - 10 other article directories if you can.

Then you would write 5 articles a day ( 5 keywords) submitting them to the top 5 - 10 directories including EZA. This way you will burn through your 150 in 30 days.

Total cost = $10 for domain name. Just make sure the domain name is a keyword powerful name. That way once you get traffic going to it, and you have converted sales, etc. If you want, you can them turn it into a squeeze page and start capturing the traffic for your own list.

The reason why you shouldn't bother to do that at the beginning, is to just concentrate on that one aspect of the business until you can do it in your sleep. Then you can potentially move onto another aspect of the business. Just master 1 step at a time.

One thing you will want to make sure though, is that the niche you pick has a few different products for it. The reason why I say that is because if 1 isnt converting, then you can at least switch to another product. Normally you will be able to tell if a product is converting for your audience after about 100 hops.

Lets look at a few numbers here. Let say you are able to write those 150 articles. And lets say you only get 10 Visitors per article per day. That is 300 views per article, X 150 = 45000 Views.

And lets say your average CTR is 10% which means that 4500 people see the sales page. And with an average conversion of 1% means 45 sales.

Lets say your average commission is $20 a sale, that is a potential $900 you made, by only spending $10, and devoting your time to the writing of the articles.

That doesn't sound like a lot, but those articles can still continue to give you traffic, and make you sales for some time to come.

And if you can keep doing something similar month after month with a new niche maybe, you will potentially see a growth in your online income.

The problem you seem to have is that you are all over the board when it comes to finding a straight and narrow plan of action. Like I mentioned, you need to find 1 simple repeatable action plan and then work it to the bone, and then some.

Anyways, I think I might have said more than I had planned. But I just gave you a very simple plan of action that you could try out, as well as an idea of taking it 1 step at a time instead of trying to do it all at once.

I will leave you too it.

Good luck, and I hope everything works out for you.

        -- Jeff

I don't think the amount of money you have matters. I think more importantly it is the amount of time you have.

You see, under pressure you waste as little time as possible sitting around, writing a to-do list, checking Google news, emails and finding some good songs to listen to on Itunes.

Instead you will use every single second of every hour of every day that you have free actually taking action. The only reason the majority of people don't take action or are procrastinating is because they have no "actual" need to make money online.

Those who do internet marketing as a part time job, whether they are at University or have another real-day job to support their bills and further expenses are actually doing internet marketing more as a hobby rather than anything else.

It is this pressure that we need to actually take action.

Therefore I don't think it matters what people's answers are here since if you are actually in that situation and you NEED to make money to survive, to make sure you don't go further in to debt, some way or another you WILL make that money.

Personally, if I was in that situation I would choose proven business models that may be repetitive but ACTUALLY work.

Models like the bum marketing model which ACTUALLY works, just it is sometimes boring and repetitive.

The creating a service and selling it model and if needs be under-cutting your competition, because it ACTUALLY works and it is almost instant cash to support your debt. Not only this, you can measure your time more productively since you can actually calculate how much money you are making per hour.

I would research 30 keywords that are good for EPN or adesense, then hire a freelancer to write me an article for each keyword. If you pay $4/hr should cost no more than $2 per article.

With left over money I would buy some domains and install wordpress on them and upload the articles and epn/adesense code. Then get "The best spinner" and spin the articles into re-writes then submit these re-writes to article directories pointing back at you main blog with the keyword in anchor text.

Then as the money comes in, re-invest it in more articles and domains.

I made my first decent profit back in 2003 with £150 investment. That was for a domain and some adwords clicks. Although I was only paying 0.04 per click and I was also the only person advertising. Was a bit like shooting fish in a barrel back then.

You can make any amount of money work for you if you use it right. When you don't have a decent float things can take a little longer, but if you have right attitude and business sense you can make it work for you.

Stop worrying about what methods to use. I was in the same situation as you. Until I realize the problem was and has always been me.

The problem is in between your ears. Stop everything related to business and just work on yourself. Only on yourself. If you need motivation to continue in the IM business then IM is not for you.

Successful people have passion for what they do which leads to motivation. If you have no passion or desire then just give it up and find what you are really passionate about and make money from there.

Just crank out articles that point to a good sales letter...or a good physical product. (redirected cheap domain)

You'll make sales. You'll get some articles that make a lot of sales. You don't have to think about it too much at all, just crank out 2 hours worth of articles a day...which is like 8 articles.

I guarantee you'll make money doing that for a month.

It seems to me like the more money you get the faster you get rid of it?? Am I near the bulls eye here? Even at your last $150 your still thinking about spending it.

Take some of the 150 and spend it on a money mindset self help course. At this point your back is up against the wall so I would follow this great biz model I came across today below.

    1. Read and learn as much from this forum other marketing forums (this one is easily the best) that you can.

    2. Find one good niche and a corresponding Clickbank product to promote and focus 100% of your time on promoting that one product or service. It's much better to put 100% into one project than 20% into 5 projects.

    3. Do not promote anything that has to do with affiliate marketing, internet marketing, makeing money online, make money blogging, or SEO. These niches are highly saturated and anyone other than experienced marketers won't be successful (many will ignore this advice anyway).

Instead, focus on lesser searched niches. Pick niches and keywords that get between 500-5000 searches per month and have less than 500,000 results on Google.

    4. Get yourself a Hub Pages account. Write a great Hub about your niche, utilizing your chosen keywords and promoting a Clickbank product. Then write a summary article of the Hub (400-500 words) and submit it to all of the following article directories with a backlink to the Hub in your resource box.

    Ezine Articles
    Go Articles
    Articles Base
    Idea Marketers
    Article Dashboard
    Article Snatch

    4. Get yourself a Blogger account and start a blog related to your niche. Write 2 related articles (300-500 words) and publish them on your blog. Include a link back to your Hub.

    5. Write 4 more hubs and a corresponding summary article and publish it to the article directories.

    6. Write two articles for every Hub and publish them to your blog. Link them back to the Hub.

    7. Promote your blog by putting the links in forum signatures, and commenting on other related blogs. Use related, informative comments. Don't just write "good post" or your comment probably won't get published. Try to do this on highly trafficked blogs. You aren't so much doing this for backlinks as you are to try and get other blog readers to click over to your blog.

Do this 10-20 times and you'll make money. After you make your first Clickbank sale, find another product and repeat the process.

    Tips:

    1. Make sure you write a fantastic Hub. The idea is to get it on the first page of Google for your chosen niche and keywords.

    2. You are writing one summary article for each Hub to submit to the article directories so you can backlink to the Hub. this will help push your Hub to the top of the search engine rankings.

    3. You should always write two uinique articles related to every Hub and publish them to your Blogger blog with links back to the Hub.

    4. For every product you choose to promote from Clickbank, you should have 5 great hubs, 5 articles published to all of those articles directories, and 10 articles on your niche Blogger blog.

    5. For every new niche, start a new blog. It's very important that you only publish content to your niche blogs. Do not link to the Clickbank product, only to the Hubs, and only one link per article. Anything more you'll risk being flagged as a spam blog.

    6. Your Hub is the place to put a link to the Clickbank product. Use the "links" module to do this, and only one Clickbank link per Hub. The idea is to provide content. Always put the link side by side with a picture (of the ebook if you want). Hubs that look like they are just trying to sell something don't score well and don't get indexed on Google.

    7. If you can do this for 5 products, you'll have 25 hubs up and running, 25 articles published to 6 directories (150 articles), and 5 nich blogs with 10 articles on each (50 blog articles). you'll make money doing this. If you can get 500 visitors per month to each Hub, that's 2500 total visitors and you should make at least 10-15 Clickbank sales.

This takes work and the more Hubs and articles you have up and running, the better you'll do. I'm currently using this same method and making 25-30 commissions every month.

The best part is after everything is published, it runs on "autopilot".

    GOOD LUCK

Focus on getting stable income first. Who cares about the $150 you have left? Focus on surviving first then focus on Internet projects later. Sounds to me like it's a do or die situation.

      $150? You have enough.

Start a service in Warrior Forum. Maybe if you are good at writing then write articles. If you are good at submitting things then open a submission service (for example, directory submission services). And so on.

$150 is far more than enough. I had started with $10.21 or so, but if you also count the service route I had taken then it had cost me around $70 to start with (work it out).

So, in my opinion, you have much more than what you need.

    Pay for an autoresponder account.

Find a field (topic, niche, etc) to go into to (preferably something you're interested in, or passionate about) and register a domain and get hosting.

Spend some TIME (not money) and write a free report (doesn't matter how long, just make it useful and relavant to your niche).

Create a SQUEEZE page and upload it to a sub-domain on your hosting account. Set up a blog on your root directory of your blog.

Write articles and drive traffic to your squeeze page.

Follow my email marketing plan in my free report (link in my signature)--I also explain all the steps above in great detail. Trust me, this is the fastest, most STABLE way to make an income online. The money IS in the list, but it has to be done right.

So basically all you'll be spending is $19/month for autoresponder account (you'll make this back before you have to make too many monthly payments), and a hosting+domain account you can get very cheap. It doesn't have to be anything fantastic right now, just something that can host your squeeze page.

    Good luck!
