Thoughts on Ping.fm/social network site syndication..

Hi everyone

Been pretty quiet on this forum since I joined but its literally cause there is so much useful stuff here to read already

So anyway, ive been investigating and implementing ping.fm content syndication to social network sites like friendster, diigo, delicious etc thru a wordpress blog im volunteering to make/manage for a music artist. (In detail, the blog content goes to to feedburner, then feedburner to twitterfeed, then twitterfeed to pingfm and lastly pingfm to twitter and social network sites.)

I have just read up on marketing to twitter and the importance of creating a good strong following, and some methods to do this.

I maintain the music artists twitter manually using socialoomph to help, but these other sites like friendfeed etc are really intended to purely have syndicated content from the music artists' blog, and maybe some mass-postings to all the social network site accounts thru SENuke - it wont be spam, but what im saying as these sites arent intended to have lots of individual attention put into them.

I wondered if your network of 'followers' matters as much for these social network sites that ping.fm would feed to, as it does to twitter?

And whether taking the time to setup syndication to these social networking sites are beneficial even if you dont have a big network of people, or dont necessarily have many people very interested in you already (twitter/facebook syndication may be a bit more beneficial because you might already have real friends and 'fans' or followers on these 2) - maybe its beneficial from an SEO perspective perhaps, if search engines pick up links you post on social network sites?

Any views on this would be so helpful

I use Ping.fm and post a lot of resources and helpful links. I sprinkle in my own links from time to time, and see a decent traffic increase, as well as good google exposure.

For the amount of time it takes, I would say it's worth the effort. If you sign up for all the accounts and store them there you only have to go to one place to post them. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

The difference though is that you can "tumble" someones post kind of like a retweet. It makes the posts go viral and sends tons of traffic. I usually post on my main blog and then I will put an excerpt of that post on Tubmlr with a 'read entire story' link at the bottom. Then I tumble it, get a few others to tumble it to their friends and it drives decent traffic.

Search out a guy by the name of Gary Vaynerchuk. He's an expert in the social media stuff and he's not a typical internet guru person. He has a book out called Crush It which goes into all the social media stuff in great detail and it's only a few dollars on Amazon. It was a New York Times bestseller too.
Thanks for the insight Danny Yeah, tumblr is one of the ones you can feed content to thru ping.fm! I've set one of these up When you say you "tumble it" what do you mean? I suppose when you say "get a few others to tumble it to their friends and it drives decent traffic..." it obviously is that you need a following/network to be effective too?

@Jeremy: Do you find this only really has an effect if you have a decent following you've built manually already? Or is building the network what you're refering to as taking time but being worth it? If so does anyone know any quick/'cheat' ways to build a network on any other sites apart from twitter (know theres a few for twitter)?

Thanks for this info. I'm working through this today myself.

    a) Have you found a way to automate Pingfm distro? Or do you have to go in and hit submit manually? Is there a way to automate Pingfm's submit button?

    b) Does anyone have any insight on a simpler "path" to get content from Wordpress blogs into Ping.fm?

    c) What does FriendFeed do for you - an example or two?

    Many thanks!

.. I tried asking on SENuke forums if you could hook that up with ping.fm sites, I'm not too familiar with SENuke only used it about a month but it was a no! But any ideas from anyone else? I suppose you could just link an autoblog to ping.fm and then it would automatically submit... thats all i can think of..

I found this.. which is a bit of a lengthier method but is overall a bit more effective maybe?

I like Ping.fm because it really is just a time saver to me. If I want to post something to twitter I could go to twitter and post it or go to ping and post it and the same message goes out to not only twitter but all the other networks you have set up in there. Huge time saver for sure.

Yes, I had made many ping.fm accounts and continously making for many of my clients and found that out of 42 sites in there around 31-32 sites are working good these days. Its same as onlywire but ping works way more better then onlywire. The majority of sites are also good.

I usually attach all ping accounts to my blogs using the free WP plugins and the amount of traffic and link it brings in is like awesome!!
