I am trying to set up a wordpress blog which will accept a plug in. I assume I would use wordpress.org to do this. However after that I am absolutely lost. I have tried ftping before and despite the help of many "pros" I was unsuccessful so am leary about trying ftping again. I have a Hostgator account and would also consider hosting on go daddy. Can anyone help me? I have never used Wordpress before. Thanks a lot.

    Hi Cardsearch,

Since you would consider another host, then try Bluehost, they have a cPanel that will upload your Wordpress blog to whatever domain you want for you. It uses an automatic up loader script, it ask you what site you want the wordpress loaded to and you click go. The site is loaded to the default theme then you can get around in the admin area and activate other themes. I suggest asking Hostgater if they have an automatic up loader for WordPress and if so how to use it.

    But Bluehost is very affordable.

Eventually you will have to get better with ftp because you want control, and uploading a file whenever you please is control.

    Hope this helps

In your HostGator admin, click on the "Fantastico" icon and then click on Wordpress to install without FTP.

If you're still stumped, you could try searching for a video tutorial that takes you through the process step by step. There are tutorials for just about anything you can imagine on the web.

I wouldn't recommend GoDaddy's hosting. You'll be fine with your current host, using Fantastico, as Gail suggested.
