Thinking outside the box?

In every basic business course they'll constantly tell you that you need to "think outside the box".

Do you agree with this.. or do you believe...

Some people think inside the box

Some people think outside the box

Some people make the box

Which one are you and what does that mean to you?

As long as your not reinventing the wheel. If a problems arises that doesn't apply to inside the box thinking you have to be able to adapt.

I wouldn't over some great advice such as thinking outside the box. If you have passion for what your doing you'll have motivation and will come up with creative ideas in which to take your business.

Its all perspective and thinking outside the box means different things to different people. For me it all about standing out from the rest of the crowd.

I believe people need to learn to think inside the box before they can think outside the box.

When I start something I try to learn everything I can about it before making changes to it.
How would I know what to change, or what needed to be changed if I don't know anything about the box.

You need to understand the system you are in before you can improve or add to it.

      This is so true.

And many IM'ers fail because they first try to make their own box....

It all depends on the person and the situation - some outside the box ideas won't work, some will work great

The only way to really know if something will work is to do it - it's always good to think for yourself though, like you guys said most people don't think outside the box (it requires extra effort)

In response to requires extra effort:

The difference between ordinary and extra ordinary is that little bit of extra.

I try to remember this every time I dive into something different, I would guess that makes me an out of the box thinker; however on occassion I do find myself locked inside the box and unable to get out...

I tend to be the one who makes the box, if something does not work for me I try another tack, and another and another...I think inside the box when appropriate and outside when it is not.

I don't ever constrain myself to conditioned thinking and sometimes that may make people think me a bit mad, but what do they know? lol

I didn't even know there was a box! Why doesn't someone tell me these things?

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

If the box is full of cash... why would I think about looking elsewhere?

You are making this work at home stuff way harder than it is. Ready for some sanity? Clear your head and start over.
