Where can I find a good intro to writing sales letters?

Hello,

A friend of mine showed me some of his eBay listings the other day, and I can see that he's doing it all wrong. He's doing the classic mistakes, telling them about himself, listing features instead of benefits, etc.

I have read loads of stuff about how to write sales letters over the years, but can't seem to find one good source that covers it all to show him. Anyone know where I can find something free that he can read, to give him an idea how to rewrite the listings so they will sell more?

Thanks,
Alan

I don't think eBay allow opt-ins anymore. They don't allow anything that might take the sale away from them. AFAIK anything that takes you off eBay is strictly forbidden.

He does have video on his listings already, but his copy needs a lot of improvement.

He's largely selling to the educated. It's more a case of convincing them to buy from himinstead of his competitors.

How do you mine leads through eBay? I gave up using it a few years ago, and rarely go back (only to buy the occasional CD). I thought they had clamped down on lead mining.

Selling tangible goods is OK there if you have...

      1) Something reasonably high priced as eBay is overflowing with cheap rubbish
      2) Something unusual, as eBay is overflowing with cheap rubbish
      3) Some way to stand out from the crowd as eBay is overflowing with cheap rubbish
      4) erm, get my drift?

I'm a professional copywriter and even I was impressed by how simply he broke down all the concepts and ways to use them.
