Your biggest problem starting out

If your new to IM what is your biggest you deal with while starting out?

If your a war vet to the scene, when you started out what was your biggest problem? Did you learn to cope with it or still struggle? How did you manage to deal with it?

The idea of this thread is to give newcomers and idea of how to cope with their problems currently dealing with IM.

When I first started out I kept trying everything under the sun. I was highly unorganized and definately didn't have any time management skills.

Now: I don't try everything, I look into it and research it before I make a decision on whether or not to shoot for it.

My time management is a little better although I still struggle with it sometimes.

I am more organized with my work.

So, let's hear your thoughts and experience

Definitely my biggest problem was time management. And still is.

Always running and jumping like a kid with a new toy But I do that with WSO's and new methods, new ideas.

    Thats my biggest problem.

Solution: focus 80% on what makes me money and 20% on new stuff.

    Problem solved.

Im just starting out and my biggest problem is how to make a website from scratch using dreamweaver. I think i know how to host it and get a domain, but when i think of actually making a site i like it really scares me!

I can see in my head exactly what i want but no idea how to get it on to dreamweaver and host it.

I dont have time to learn html coding so my solution is using templates similar to the idea in my head, but im always dissapointed because its just not perfect!

One day i'll learn it but right now i dont have the time or patience!

Shaun, you can create a very nice wordpress site without knowing any html at all. As for the layout and things, you can have a custom theme created for you for around $50-$100 from some people here on the Warrior Forum. I actually looked into that but I deleted the PMs Accidently so I don't have any names for you. Just check the WSO or Warrior for Hire section.

      Cool thanks for the tip.

I downloaded wordpress and its just a load of folders with dreamweaver files in, when i open them up its mostly jibberish. So what do i do when i have downloaded wordpress? lol i really hate asking such stupid questions.

I guess its like asking a learner driver to jump into an F1 car and do 10 laps.

Looking forward to getting out of this newbie stage!

There are a number of problems.

First is information overload and/or analysis paralysis.
This means there is too much information to absorb, resulting in continuing to try to get more information and figure out more things before committing.

While a certain amount of this is good, you need to make informed decisions, but you have to take the next step. You have to start doing something.

The second problem is usually lack of commitment to a single project, I refer to this as stutter starting, or 'scattergun' starts. Many people let the overabundance of information and prospects to let them start a project, then move to the next leaving the first only partially started. In the end, this means it feels like you've 'tried' dozens of things and 'nothing works' when in fact, none were actually properly tried due to incomplete starts or changing marketing ideas before fully executing them.

The third I call "I can't depend on anyone else" While it is fine to learn everything about your business, if you insist on doing everything yourself without help of any kind, you will typically must 'reinvent the wheel' when someone would give you the tools you need if you just asked (or listened).

Make sure that who you are getting help from knows what they are doing. For example don't let me tell you how to pick your market, product, build your customer list, and your marketing, without knowing 2 very important things... Am I really looking to help you? And Do I really know what I'm doing, or is it all 'theory' on my part?

Also included in this mindset is the refusal to outsource. Sometimes outsourcing is the most productive use of your resources.

These are the things that come to my mind.
