laptop in the sunshine

For all you IMers working on the beach

What are your best tricks for using a laptop outdoors (in the shade) and being able to see the screen easily without eye strain? (I know about screen shades, but haven't seen one with excellent reviews, and wondering if there are other easier options.)

Haven't found anything that "works" yet. I live pretty close to the beach and spend a lot of time there -- pointless to try and work in my experience.

My guess is all those pictures of guys/gals working on the beach just might be staged

I've been looking for this for a long time and haven't found a satisfactory answer.

I spoke to one tech guy about anti-glare screens and he said that laptops don't have sufficient contrast to make an anti-glare screen usable in sunny conditions.

So I've got the sunshine - but no laptop.

I work by the pool every nice day in the summer and all you can do is make sure your screen is clean and spot free and under an umbrella.... or use this thing http://craphound.com/images/infaddicthoodie.jpg LOL

LOL, gotta love the hoodie. IT is so a teenager thing to do. Thank goodness my daugthers aren't into hoodies, otherwise I'd be in big trouble trying to get through that thing to monitor what they do online.

As for the laptop, I have yet to find anything that will keep the glare out. I have heard that the anti glare screens really aren't designed to work with laptops. I always wondered how Ian Flemming would have handled himself writing all those James Bond novels by the beach on A LAPTOP...
