Generalizations abound.

Do you tend to trust women or men more when you read sales copy or deal with them in an internet transaction?

The job of good sales copy is to build a level of trust. I don't think anyone who has read more than a couple sales letters starts reading with any level of trust, so I don't think it maters if it is a man or woman who supposedly wrote it.

I don't trust either more than the other.

Honestly, I would have to say females. I know it's sexist but there's so few of us still in IM, I just tend to trust them more. Of course the ones I can think of off the top of my head have built their reps and deserve the trust I place in them. That's not to say there aren't male IMers I trust, there are quite a few I trust.

In real life, neither LOL. Females tend (warning broad generalizations here) to be catty and manipulative, males tend to only want one thing LOL.

    Doesn't make a difference.

However, if it's a gender-specific problem then I'm thinking I'd be more inclined to trust a female for a female problem or a male for a male problem (or an "authority figure" of either gender -- like a doctor -- if I think it's relevant).

    For example...

How to deal with menopause? I suspect females would trust other females more on the subject (or health professionals of either gender).

How to deal with an un-descended testicle? I suspect males would trust other males more on this subject (or health professionals of either gender).

    ***

But aside from those types of situations, then it absolutely doesn't matter. Like if I want to buy IM info, it doesn't matter if it's from a male or female. My level of trust doesn't vary by gender for that stuff.

    Cheers,
    Becky

I totally agree with this. One guy who has many websites, has told me that depending on the product the site promotes, he will swap gender! So in IM trusting men or women more is totally irrelevant!

Also, from personal experience, in life I find that both men and women can be equally untrusworthy!

Instinctually, I would like to truust women more. SERIOUSLY!!!!!!

BUT, the truth is that I don't feel EITHER is more likely to be trusted!

Just yesterday, on Stargate universe, elly remembers that a woman distracted him at a moment that could have caused him to make a DANGEROUS mistake! He asks her if she did that on purpose and she said "NO, I KNEW it was going to happen, but I had NO idea WHEN". That answer is TYPICAL of many females. An answer that leaves you wondering "Did she say YES, or NO?"! Males, by nature, TEND to be more direct, but obviously sometimes learn such behaviour. still, there IS the idea of "feminine wiles". Women often seem to think men are 100% naive about such things, but we aren't. Maybe it is the testosterone or something that makes it almost endearing to us TO A DEGREE.

    BTW Dictionary:

    wile (wl)
    n.
    1. A stratagem or trick intended to deceive or ensnare.
    2. A disarming or seductive manner, device, or procedure: the wiles of a skilled negotiator.
    3. Trickery; cunning.
    tr.v. wiled, wil·ing, wiles
    1. To influence or lead by means of wiles; entice.
BTW I based these opinions on decades of PERSONAL interaction, and much was before many would do anything to alter such things. So I'm sure I got the sexes right. Women salespeople are more likely to bring emotion into it, distract, touch, etc... Men are more likely to simply lie, or maybe try to pull you into male things if you are male. At least that is how they act towards a man.

In my experience, most people are as honest as the day is long - for example, we get emails every day from customers asking us for clarification on sharing our products with people they work with before they start sharing it.

I remember a sale we had not long ago where I forgot to change the price from 0.01 (for testing) to $7.77 - a bunch of folks bought it at that 1 cent price and then emailed me to tell me about it and ask where to send the balance. How cool is that?

Don't get jaded by the actions of a relatively few people online compared to the majority, everyday folks who are genuinely good people.
I agree with this as well. I once accidentally charged customers $27 instead of $47 and I got asked about it as well. (I let them keep the product at the lower price...)

    This a touchy subject.

Of course it depends on the person, but generally speaking, I tend to trust women marketers more WHEN I REALLY KNOW ITS A WOMAN who is doing the marketing.

I get so many spam offers and most of them are using women's names. UNLESS, all of those spammers are really women! LOL

I think it's a psychological thing that we tend to think of women as the caring, nurturing loving gender that wouldn't do anything to harm us. (ex wives excluded)

Well, HEY, I once got cheated by a guy and, when I contacted ****HIS**** email a "woman" responded and said he was honest and would do the right thing. I later found he generally DOESN'T have people working for him, but often acts like a woman that is supposedly helping him out. BTW that was YEARS ago, and he never did the right thing.

On the other hand, a few months ago, some woman here crowed about a woman that pretended to be a MAN to supposedly prove men were sexist pigs! Of course, as far as SHE is concerned, she proved her stupid theory. That is the EPITOMY of dishonesty, to try to pretend to be what you are not, change various variables, and live that way for a protracted length of time, and then spread contaminated data that isn't scientifically valid in ANY way to spread distrust.

And some women say to sit down with, flirt, and touch customers to get a big tip.

For me sex is irrelevant, and unreliable. I'm sure there are many lovely "women" online are men who have learned some guys are suckers for a pretty face.

Sex shouldn't really come into ones analysis of a business persons trustworthy-ness.

Depends... In IM and stuff, I trust men more. Including programming, landing pages and stuff.

When it comes to graphics, baby products, health products I feel inclined to trust the female.

When it comes to personal growth, more of men and less of women... Because I haven't seen absolutely amazing women providing that great service in the industry.

Men, ofcourse - who can deny one of the greatest men alive? - Eben Pagan... You naturally trust him. Men do have a lot of wisdom and are much more strict. Less dramatic

When you read a copy from a girl, it makes little or no sense to me. But when I read the one written by a guy, it makes sense. The system or whatever to me...

    Hmm, tricky one.

I dont think this depends as guys can be just as sneaky and deceiving as women. But I've found that women tend to be more "customer oriented" when it comes to support because they care more.

Gender would be the last thing I'd base my trust on. I know for some people here, based on the comments I've read, it seems like they already have some preconceived notions, but I feel like I'm pretty much a blank slate when it comes to evaluating a sales pitch, and issues of gender don't really enter my mind at all.

As strange as it sounds, I tend to trust men more, if only by the smallest of a fraction. The reason for this is that for many years it was considered a normal sales practise to place a woman as the sales head for more trust... whenever I read sales copy by a woman there is always this slight doubt in the back of my head.
