Off the top of my head 150-250 characters, these numbers just seem to ring a bell

    Hi there,

I use an article submission service that is well known around article directories and they recommend you use a maximum of 450 words.

Ideally, I use just over a 100-150 words in my article descriptions with at leat 3 of the main keywords included in there. This will typically be when I write an article with 700-800 words in length. (Again, highly recommended for publishing purposes on high ranking directories)

    Hope this helped.

For SHORT descriptions, maybe 80. Some are even 40! Longer ones maybe 256. If you are ACCEPTING them, try to make them as long as possible. With the two most popular databases, the longest length of an in table varchar2 is 4000 bytes. Of course, having them outside with TEXT means all bets are off, but you should probably STILL try to limit them to 2GB.
