Hi,
How important to have a catchy header image (or logo)?

I have noticed that some sales pages use catchy fancy well designed image(pictures) or logo, while others just simply put a simple header which just shows the site names or product names or maybe a part of the headline. And some don't even bother putting any header image, just simply starts with the headline.

Are there any differences when it comes to conversion and stuff in general?
Or is it just a matter of what you like?

I know all depends on your specific situation but is there any general research about this? Like which is better with a header image or without or what kind of a header is better?(Catchy pictures or just simply the site/product name)

I work almost exclusively in the opportunity seeker niche--real estate, internet and similar--and have tested in that niche extensively.

In general a "plain paper" style outsells a graphic header style for long-form copy in that niche.

I agree with Kevin... I am sort of in similar niches as him and I get better conversions with a plain paper sales page.

  Wide headers take up valuable "above the fold" selling space.
  So if you use them, it can be a good idea to have a selling
  message in the header itself.
  
  I see a lot of headers for IM product launches, especially
  those dealing with affiliate marketing, that I think are too
  elaborate and too wide. ie. next month's forthcoming
  "Google Splatter Affiliate Murder Machine Gun"
  
  Generally if you're targeting a less experienced buyer,
  use flashier packaging. Experienced buyers may think
  you're trying to cover up lack of value with fancy graphics.

If your tests show a better conversion with a graphical header, then it's pretty important.

On the other hand, if your conversions are higher without, then a header isn't important at all.

I deal in the forex and weight loss niche mainly and have graphical headers to be greatly important in terms of hitting sales - I did split tests a while back.
