Here's A Different Way To Embed YouTube Videos On Wordpress Blogs...

One of the main benefits to using this player to embed YouTube videos is that it will not "click through" to Youtube...

Download the "Flash Video Player" Wordpress plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/flash-video-player/

Active the plugin.

Enter the following short code wherever you would like the YouTube video to be displayed:

Code:
[flashvideo file=http://youtube.com/watch?v=pShf2VuAu_Q /]
(Obviously, replace the YouTube video link with your own )

There are many options for the player itself including the ability to hide the controls, autoplay, etc...

This plugin also works with a bunch of other videos... like .mp4 videos hosted on your s3 account.

The thing I like about it is that it disables the ability for the user to just click the video and go straight to youtube..

It will save us from visitors clicking the video to watch it in Youtube.

            Close to Steve's age?

Steve and his buddies were in a bar, talking:

One says, "You know, I'm getting really forgetful. This morning, I was standing at the top of the stairs, and I couldn't remember whether I had just come up or was about to go down."

Another says, "You think that's bad? The other day, I was sitting on the edge of my bed, and I couldn't remember whether I was going to sleep or had just woken up!"

Steve smiles smugly. "Well, my memory is just as good as it's always been, knock on wood," he says as he raps on the table. Then with a startled look on his face, he asks, "Who's there?"

Thanks Mark, was actually looking for a solution to that sometime back.

I presume of course it in no way interferes with the view count of the video ?

I wouldn't think so since it's still pulling the video from YouTube, but I don't have a definitive answer....

I didn't thinks so either but by blocking one action with code, it did occur to me it's a possibility.

Update the thread if you run some tests please Mark.

Actually, I'm not quite sure whether it is or isn't in violation. It looks like it might be. Also, is there a difference between broadcasting my own videos and broadcasting those of others in terms of permissibility of using this plugin?

        Thanks!

I have always been worried about putting embedded youtube videos on my blog because of the possible 'distraction' from the visitor if he clicks on the video and goes straight to youtube.

I know I'm guilty of that when I visit other people's blogs. Youtube seems to be addictive at times..

But this plugin eases my worries now Thanks a lot Mark!

Great tips, I was looking for something like this, one question though, is there still a way to resize the video, sometimes the smallest video available (580 width) is still too big for my blog and I need to go into the source and change the dimensions manually, can I still do this with this plug in?

I took Mark Hess's link to youtube's TOS and it said (among other things):
If you use the YouTube Embeddable Player on your website, you must include a prominent link back to the YouTube website on the pages containing the Embeddable Player and you may not modify, build upon, or block any portion of the Embeddable Player in any way.
It would seen that this plug in might be to youtube's liking. ?????????

Nice plugin, I hate the YouTube click through but...

I'm wondering if using the plugin would detract from the SEO benefit you get from having YT videos on your page. Google loves YT embeds and I'm guessing that it wouldn't see the video inside this player as a YT video?

A clever plug in, but it is in violation of YouTube's ToS, in a fairly big way (obviously so when you think about it).

      Also, what is it
for? If it's your own video you're embedding then effectively you're trying to use YouTube for free hosting without "paying" their price - which is wrong no doubt but that is your choice.

But the biggest issue I have with it is that people will use it to embed videos which aren't theirs which is in effect
plagiarism, or theft of another persons content to be more blunt.

So a clever plug in but definitely NOT cool.

      My 2 pence.

      Cheers

To keep in line with YouTube TOS, you can post a link to the actual YouTube video underneath the player...

He said earlier that putting a link by the video keeps it in line with the YT TOS. Just make the link very small if you want.

Would be useful if you dont use WordPress. Im simply imforming you all that the new embed player doesnt link to youtube unless you click on the small youtube image in the corner.

Thanks so much for the tip, Mark! Lately I've become somewhat of a Wordpress plugin junkie, there seems to be a plugin for almost everything under the sun. Try to do your research before installing them though, as I've come across some really crappy ones but have also found some real gems that truly make me wonder WHY on earth they're offering them for free!

There is a even easier way to embed Youtube videos. Use the Smart Youtube plugin for Wordpress and just replace the "http:" from the videos link with "httpv:" and it will automatically embed it.
