Are the # of Users "Viewing" Accurate Here on WF?

Whether in the WSO forum, or right here, there always seems to be hundreds of people viewing at any one time....

There are times where I've seen the WSO forum go as high as 1,300+ users viewing at any one time.....

Do YOU just keep an open browser for a certain forum here on WF, and just refresh it occasionally?

....do you feel that the number of people 'viewing' is accurate?

While there does seem to be a decent amount of posting and participation, it seems like it should be MUCH much more (unless there really are ALOT of lurkers...)

I think there's a lot of people using this forum as intended... for learning, information, and study. So you won't see them participating - but they are there reading.

    I read here - a LOT.

    Yes

Most people on here are just reading without actually posting, but the number is quiet high yes.

I would say it's accurate considering how many people are online at a time. I mean if all the people online are not reading the threads and forums then what are they doing

EDIT: Here's the number of people online right now:

Currently Active Users: 2818 (933 members and 1885 guests)

    No, it's not accurate.

I just did a quick Google sum, and the number of total users were 2368 - adding all numbers corresponding to the subforum, whereas the users online are 3086 according to vBulletin.

It depends on what the forum software is set to. It can record and display the amount of people in the last minute I think all the way up to hours.

What is this Google sum you speak of and how did you do it?

EDIT: Never mind - I see what you did. That doesn't take into account the number of users who are just sitting on the main page. Also it may have to do with the setting mentioned below.

I remember reading somewhere that Allen has admitted that he has this set a little on the high side to artificially inflate the numbers.

But if you go to the main page ( http://www.warriorforum.com/ ) you'll see right down the bottom that there are actually over 190,000 registered members... PLUS the guests.

So it's very believable that there could be 1000 + people watching the wso section at any one time.
Could be but remember ton loads of people register and never get dropped who no longer visit.
