How to Recruit the Top Super Affiliates

I often times get asked about the best way to recruit affiliates so I thought
I would make a quick post showing how you can find all of the top super affiliates
within your market.

But first, before I begin. I do want to remind you that recruiting top affiliates
is really all about relationship building.

And that's where most people make their mistake. They approach people
with their product and their offer right up front and ask the person to promote
before they provide any value themselves or build a real relationship with them.

If you want to build a strong affiliate army, you first have to focus on building
relationships. You have to focus on providing value to the other person FIRST.

And most of all, you need to be genuinely interested in the other person.
People can instantly sense if you're fake or just in it for an agenda.

So first you have to care. First you have to look for ways that you
can provide value to the other person.

Also, keep in mind that a joint venture can take on many forms. It doesn't
always have to be someone who promotes your product. It could be an ad
swap, a Tweet Swap, an interview, or an exchange of any number of services.

Lot's of marketers are way too focused on one-off deals when they should
really be looking for STRATEGIC relationships. When you form these types
of partnerships, the possibilities are unlimited.

You can exchange content, create products together, make introductions,
barter your services, etc...

Strategic partnerships allow you to create an ongoing process of win-win deals.

Look for long-term business partners who have similar core values and beliefs
as yourself. I personally look for people who are customer-focused and who
over-deliver on value.

And most importantly, you'll want to look for people who have products that
you would be happy to promote yourself.

Because the last thing you want to do is joint venture with someone who
does not create good products and then feel like you need to reciprocate
by promoting their lackluster product. This can put you in a very sticky
situation. So make sure that you are building relationships with like-minded
people who are dedicated to creating great products and great customer
experiences.

Because promoting a lackluster product will cost you your greatest asset
of all - and that's your reputation.

That's why it's critically important that you form strategic partnerships
with like-minded marketers.

To begin, you'll want to put together a list of the top online marketers,
bloggers, and social media influencers.

There are some pretty cool ways to find the top online marketers,
bloggers, and social media influencers in any industry. Here are a
few of my favorites...

1. In order to find the top social media influencers, I like to go
to a site called http://www.twellow.com.

This is one of the top online Twitter directories where you can find
the most popular Twitter users based on category.

I generally look for people with at least 5,000 followers.

Next, you'll want to go to http://www.wefollow.com.

This site is very similar to Twellow.com and it's categorized by tags.

Using these two websites, you'll be able to identify the top social media
influencers on Twitter. You can then start engaging and interacting with
them.

Find ways to provide value for them first and you'll be amazed at how
eager they will be to promote your content in the future.

And, as always, have fun with it! These are real relationships that you're
building. There's no need to be all business all the time.

2. When looking for the top super affiliates in your market, I use few
special queries in Google.

First, you'll want to go to Google and type in:

inurl:jvblog

OR

inurl:jv-blog

This is going to bring up all of the JV Blogs online.

As you probably know, during major product launches, the product creators
often create a JV Blog to update and interact with their affiliates.

Plus, this is also where they post the JV Leaderboard.

So we can instantly find out who the top affiliates are for all of the different
product launches.

* Another great way to find JV leaderboards is to simply type into Google:

"jv leaderboard" (in quotes)

This will bring up all of the pages online that have the phrase "jv leaderboard".

Using this technique you'll find a TON of JV leaderboards where you can
instantly tap into all of the top affiliates for different product launches.

This is definitely one of my favorite strategies.

It brings up lots of good results.

3. Next, we're going to head on over to http://www.jvnotifypro.com.

This is a website that will notify you of all of the upcoming product
launches (mostly in the Internet Marketing space).

You'll need to sign up for an account first.

Once you've logged in, you'll need to go to the section called:

"JV Notify Pro Update Announcements And Archives"

This is where you'll find a TON of potential affiliate partners.

You'll want to take note of each of the product launches and the
product owners.

These are all potentially some really great people to start developing a
relationship with.

Plus, the cool part is that most of the threads will also tell you which
big name marketers are already on board.

So you'll want to get those names as well.

For example, in this thread:

http://www.jvnotifypro.com/community...ic,3493.0.html

About a third down the page you'll see a section that says:

"Who is promoting this launch?

Here is a list of JV's who are already confirmed:
Ewen Chia, Michael Jones, Alex Goad, JP Schoeffel,
Eric Holmlund, Dave Guindon, Todd Gross, Jason
Gazaway, Jeff Mills, Cindy Battye, George Brown,
Saj P, Alen Sultaic, Calvin Woon, Jamie Lewis and
Letian Liu, Chris Fox, Frank Salinas, Dave Nicholson,
Steven Iser, Steven Johnson, Ian Del Carmen,
Jerome Chapman, Brian Winters, Tim Bekker, Bill
Mcrea and many more.."

So you can instantly find out the top marketers who are already on board.

You'll also want to click on the JV Invite pages as well, because they'll
often tell you which other marketers are already on board on that page as
well.

From the list that you compile using these strategies, you'll want to filter
the list down to a list of core people thta you'd like to develop a relationship with.

Obviously, you can't build relationships with everyone. So you're really
much better off by creating REAL relationships with a small group of
strategic partners.

Look for long-term business partners who have similar core values and
beliefs as yourself.

As said by one of my favorite Warriors, Jason Parker, A Circle Of 5 JV Partners Is All You Really Need.

Great Info Kim... I think JV are one of the most difficult things to get right in IM. You mention contacting the 'big names', yet I feel most will be very difficult to reach. They are all tuned to WIIFM (Whats In It For Me) and thus most will not entertain your new e-Book, no matter how good it is. It appears to me they are only interested in high ticket items, with a backend membership style OTO which gives them additional recurring income. I guess having a BIG list makes people arrogant and picky about who they want to do business with.

      You make some great points.

It's definitely not an easy task!

But I think you'll find it quite doable (even with the big names) when you have a few critical pieces in place.

First, of course, you need a really great product. I'm talking first-class. Especially if you want to stand out from all of the other JV requests that they receive.

Secondly, you must already have a PROVEN sales funnel in place. If you want someone to send you their hard-earned traffic, then you need to make sure you have your sales funnel converting as high as humanly possible. This includes the sales letter/ video sales letter along with the upsell/downsell process.

You need to know your visitor value so that you can tell them exactly how much each visitor is worth. How much should they earn per click?

If you haven't optimized your sales funnel and you don't have a high visitor value, then you're not ready to start contacting potential JV's.

Your joint venture partners DESERVE to have a PROVEN sales letter.
You have to remember that this is their hard-earned list that you are tapping into. They have most likely been building their list and the relationships with their subscribers for months or even years. If you want them to promote your product to their list of hard-earned subscribers
then you better have a sales letter that converts and a high visitor value for every visitor they send you.

This means creating a COMPLETE sales funnel with a high-converting front-end offer, a series of upsells to increase visitor value, and possibly some built-in continuity.

Otherwise, they're better off promoting someone else's product.

So the key here is first to develop a relationship with them and find out how you can provide value first. And secondly, you must have a high-converting sales process already in place. You need to be able to tell them your visitor value and all of your conversion numbers.

Here's another quick tip for you.

This is one of my favorite underground tools...

This particular service will tell you exactly where your competitors
website traffic is coming from - allowing you to find out which sites
are responsible for sending the most traffic to their website.

So you'll know exactly whether they're getting most of their traffic
from affiliate programs, banners, forums, paid links, site sponsorships, articles, advertising, etc...

With this information, you can target the small percentage of sites that are
sending them the bulk of their traffic. You can identify potential affiliates,
hot advertising spots, content distribution points, and much much more.

You'll find this tool at Compete.com.

      And it's truly invaluable.

Unfortunately, it is pretty pricey because it's on their PRO monthly service
but you can always sign up for a month and do all of your research during
      that time.

Or, with their free service, you can see the top 5 referring sites, which
can be pretty insightful as well.

Wow great post. 1 extremely important thing is building the relationship BEFORE pushing your product to a person. Nobody wants to feel used, and if you are known for something, and somebody comes right out and asks you for it, you feel like your being used, as opposed to helping out a friend.

        Hey Marian,

        Excellent Point!!

It's important to make it as easy as possible for your JV partners to promote.

Provide your affiliates with anything and everything that they might need to promote your product...pre-written emails, banners, product images, articles, tweets, thank-you page ads, etc...

You should always email your top JV's to see if they need anything extra (customized squeeze pages, interviews, or bonuses). It's your job to go above and beyond for your affiliates. Do everything you can to make them successful and it will come back to you in spades.

When approaching people for joint ventures, especially big-name marketers, look for ways that you can go above and beyond. Offer them a higher commission or give them a special bonus or discount for their subscribers.

In fact, I would even consider giving 100% commissions to someone that you're really wanting to get on board. This is especially true if it's your product launch. 100% commissions can be a very powerful way to get your first JV's.

Then, when you approach other people, you'll be able to say that so and so is already on board. Very powerful!

No... Article and Video Marketing is the way to go. Provide value to affiliates by teaching them your ideas. Create a forum where you actively participate and help...

And mainly create a product which OVERDELIVERS TO THE CUSTOMER and CONVERTS EXCEPTIONALLY WELL.
